Max number of sounds that can be played simultaneously?

In our game I play a sound whenever a drum bounces on a bell. In some cases lots of collisions occur in a very short time, so lots of sounds… which crashes the sound in the game entirely.
So I suspect it’s just too much, but I’m not sure if the limitation lies with the iPhone hardware or the Unity sound library (when I quit the game, I’m still able to play MP3s).

Any idea what the limit is? and what I should do to fix this?
