Max number of textures for a shader?

Hi,

Disclaimer: I’m a total shader noob. So my questions may make no sense, use incorrect terminology, etc. Please don’t hurt me.

Does Unity impose any restrictions on the max number of textures you can pass to a shader? I think most modern cards support 16 texture units for programmable shaders and maybe 8 for FFP? At least that’s what I think I picked up reading through random stuff on the web but I may be totally misunderstanding things.

Is there anything you have to do to allow 16 textures if they are supported? A pragma specifying SM 3 or anything?

Thanks in advance.

In Unity 2.x, more than 8 textures are not supported. In Unity 3.0 you will be able to use up to 16.

Yay, thanks. Time to rewrite my shader then.
