Hi All
Strange problem
Max 8 files work perfectly in Unity (mesh, object and material components)
but
Max 2010 files only have a FBXImporter component and no mesh, no materials
I just installed the new Autodesk FBX importer/exporter still not working.
If I export the file to an .fbx file - Unity sees it fine - but this is a pain and Im working on a project with another artist who only has 2010.
any ideas?

Actually the fbx exporter works great
the problem is:
I can simply save the max file to the asset folder and have Unity recognize the the Max meshes.
Max 8 works great
Max 2010 dosent (note attached pic)

Could you be more specific? Do you have both max 8 and max 2010 installed? if you double-click on max (2010 max) file in explorer, does it open it with 3dsMax 2010 without problems? Does you Unity give you any error when importing the file? Because it looks like your files were not recognized as meshes (the icon is incorrect), but it has correct importer (FBXImporter) which I find slightly weird…
