I have a character with 3 material assigned to various polygons. When I export it from Maya 2016 Extension 2 the materials import fine in Unity 5.5.0f3 When I take that same FBX from the Unity folder and import it into Maya 2017 Update 2, then re-export it back to Unity, I get this FBX error:
Warning: Unable to export some material(s) (1)
“The plug-in does not support the following material types: Material will be exported as a grey Lambert material.”
I also tried starting from scratch in 2017, creating different material types; Blinn, Phong, Lambert, and then assigning those to polygons to see if that was the issue, it wasn’t. I also tried exporting it with different FBX versions which didn’t fix the problem either. I also compared both FBX options from 2016 to 2017, and all the check-boxes seem to be the same.
Anyone have any ideas?
What works is saving the Maya scene (.mb) directly into Unity. That imports all my materials as well as my mesh. Is there a reason not to do it this way?
Thanks.
