maya fbx 2009 animation problem

When I export my model as fbx from maya some of the joints lose the animation even though I have set the bake keys to ON.

I’m pretty sure this is Maya fbx problem (not Unity) because I’ve tried reimporting the fbx back into Maya and the keys on those joints are gone. Thus this is not the problem on the Unity side.

I had to resort to manually baking the keys in Maya first before exporting it out as fbx.

has anyone encountered similar problem? I’m using fbx 2010 (with the setting output to 2009). Tried other options too but the problem stil persist.

Funny thing is that it was exporting all fine yesterday, Then I tweaked several unrelated things and then some joints don’t bake anymore. It is very frustrating and makes me feel that fbx is not very reliable. Please help.

Cannot debug without file *.ma file

Now Maya, FBX and Unity work just fine, all error are user issue

I’m just passing this on. . .

I had corruption problems with the rotations / orientations of some joints in some models. It turned out to be a bug in the FBX exporter. What I didn’t realize at the time was that the FBX exporter was updated. It took me weeks to track this down. After I went back a revision it worked fine.

I think though Autodesk has since fixed that particular issue. But who knows, it could happen again.

Thank you. I’ve tried updating my fbx but still the same problem. fbx must be really really sensitive to small things in the rig for it not being able to bake the keys on some of the joints. But no worries I made a little mel script that bake the keys within maya before exporting it.

have you tried to bake the animation through the fbx exporter?
uncheck the things that doesn’t need to be exported?

Please be more specific about what you do and what you get
