Maya import error

Every time I try to import a Maya mb file, I get the following error:
Maya couldn’t convert the mb file to an fbx file

To bring the mb file into my project, I select Assets/Import New Asset. What step am I missing?

Do you have Maya installed on your machine?

If you double click the .mb file in the finder, can Maya open it correctly?

Yes, Maya loads the mb file from the Finder.

What version of maya do you have? Are you running on a intel mac?

What does the system console say?
(Applications/Utilities/Console.app)

Yes, I have Maya 7.0.1 running on an Intel Mac.

The console says the fbxmaya.lib plugin is already loaded. skipped.

It repeats the Maya conversion error message and says try exporting the mb file to an fbx file manually and points me to the fbx download location.

Can you send me the full system console log via e-mail.

I don’t know if this is the problem, but if you have PLE also installed as well as maya some how they get mixed up and it screws up importing. I had a similar problem and a quick uninstall of PLE fixed it.

Thanks, but it turned out the issue was an old FBX exporter. Installing the newest version (2/2006) took care of the problem.
