Maya import

something strange started today. When I try to import 3D models created in Maya, all I get is an “empty” with info about animation. The mesh is nowhere to be found.

Has anybody experienced something like this, and hopefully know how to fix it.

Im using unity 1.6, Maya 7 and OsX 10.4.8

btw yesterday and all the days before it worked perfectly.

If you import this file into a completely empty project, does it still have the problem? In any case, send the file in with Report Bug.app

hi Aras

I´ve tried with a new empty project, but the problem is the same. I found the Report Bug application, but im not sure what file to send. Is it the maya file you want?

Somehow i dont think Maya is the problem, as I wrote it worked before today. If make a copy of a maya file that is working in my project, and try to import that, the problem is the same - no mesh, only that “empty” kind of thing.

I have attached a screnshot of how it looks.

Yes, I’d want the maya file (.mb). If it imports incorrectly, then either it’s a bug in Unity or something very funky in the file itself.

the maya file has been submitted.

Wonder if Bjerre ever got an answer to this? I just started having the same problem – Unity doesn’t seem to import .mb correctly any more. Seems to have possibly started when I created a new project. I can see Unity launching MayaBatch in the Activity monitor. All newly imported .mbs are ‘empty’ like in Bjerre’s example.

Using Maya 6.5, OSX 10.3.9

I had this problem a time ago, i realized that the empty mesh is because of the history in maya.

So before animating (with bones) clear the history (Edit > Delete all by type > History) and try again.

History always create problems, even if the object is not animated in any way.

Hope this help.

Thanks, but I don’t think this is it-- I don’t use history either

And it doesn’t matter what I try to import; even a simple cube or a file that I’ve already imported perfectly many times. In fact if I duplicate a file in the finder and then switch back to Unity it does the same thing. I can see MayaBatch crunching away in the Activity Monitor; it seems like maybe Unity has forgotten where to “pick up” the processed file from Maya somehow? I say this because it seemed to have started when I created a New project folder in a different place on my HD than usual…

.fbx works fine…

I remember that problem. It was a long time ago, but I think I fixed it be reinstalling the fbx plug-in.

BINGO!

Thanks Bjerre!
