Mecanim and Legacy Anims

Hi Everyone!

First post. You guys are a great community.

So I was going to use Mecanim to give me a nice state machine for a non-humanoid prop object. I’m exporting fbx files from an older version of 3DSMax.

I can mark the rig as generic, but then the log barks at me saying the rig should be Legacy. If I leave it as generic, everything works just fine except for the log.

If I switch it to Legacy to remove the warning then I lose the avatar object from my model, and so the Animator Component doesn’t know how to play animations on it.

The references all say I can use Legacy files on a non-humanoid model with mecanim. I am unsure how. I’m happy to use generic if I don’t get the warnings.

Lastly, can anyone tell me why an fbx animation might trip the warning in the first place?
