Mecanim Feet Stabilization

Hello,

At the Mecanim page, in the end it says: “Other features, such as feet stabilization, auto compute of blending pivot and trajectory matching will help you create incredibly life-like interactive animation.”

I’m curious, what “feet stabilization” means in mecanim context. Unfortunately, it doesn’t get mentioned in the docs. I’ve searched the forums, I’ve googled “mecanim feet stabilization” but there were no appropriate explanations.

Does anyone know what it means and when and how it gets used?

Actually, what I’m searching for is whether mecanim has the “body stabilization” feature. That is, to move/adjust it’s center of mass so it gets projected to y plane inside the “stable area”. By stable area, I mean the trapeziod area defined by positions of the feet, like in this image:

or the area of the foot if the character is standing on one foot.

Thanx!

Mecanim Humanoid calculates two points of interest one is the centre of gravity and the other is the feet pivot point. It also publishes a float that you can use to control which one is used for rotation. This means that you can set up rotation to happen exactly on the planted foot while running, or use the center of gravity when jumping.

Thank you for taking time to answer UnLogick.

So I guess I could manually project the center of gravity into the trapezoid to check wether the character is stable.

This image next to the part where “feet stabilization” is mentioned led me to believe that the caracter can balance automatically (for example when standing on one foot):

Thank you for clarification.
