Mecanim multiple sprite animations

I can’t seem to get both sprite animations to run at the same time. On my sprite guy, upper and lower body animations are separate. It has 1 animator, 2 sprite renderers, both body parts have their own layers, and both layers run under the same conditions. Whenever it plays, only the top layer animates, but both layers are changing states as planned. By the bottom won’t animate?

Do you have blending set to additive and weight to 1 on the second layer(not the base)? Layers in Mecanim are meant for blending, so you need to set those values accordingly, if you want to see both Animator layers at the same time.
