Meet Bob

just a character i’m working on.

note: the texturing isn’t done, pants are roughed out and there’s a seam on his face.

comments + critiques are welcome.

thanks!

Sweet stuff! Only thing with that demo I would change would be to make the shadows soft instead of hard, and to fix up the lighting a bit so that it doesn’t make use of ambient lighting so much.

That is pretty sweet bro. I like the art style to it. What 3D apps did you use? How long have you been modeling?

It looks really good. The only thing I have to say is he just doesn’t look like a Bob. Any chance you’d consider renaming him. Anyway keep up the good work.

That is flippin sweet. Nice job. I can see him being called Bob. I really like it, great job.

Bob is cool, like him.

There are some beautiful seems on the middle of the character.
Do no forget to had arround 10 pixel on the bordel or your Uvs for preventing mipmappin bug

thanks for the replies!

@joseph : i havent been modeling/animating for very long, maybe 6 months total. I worked with someone who knew a lot about 3d modeling and he got me started.

I used modo for modeling and initial texturing. I used Blender for the animations… I love Blender!

@sama : ya, that’s mainly lazyness on my part  I roughed out the texture on most of his body (besides for the face) so a friend of my can play around with adding the character to an environment.

@sama.van : side note, i’ve been following your work on polycount for a while, love your low poly stuff!

Yeah, I am currently learning C4D and looking to get into either ZBrush or Silo, still not sure. Also might look into 3D Max since there are so many learning resources.

I guess you have been an artist far longer? Im not much of an artist, I hope that doesnt impede my ability to make great looking art.

@joseph : definitely look at Silo, if i hadn’t purchased a Modo license I would have bought a Silo one. It’s a great modeler for cheap.

ZBrush is great if you want to create Normal maps, or if you want to start with a sculpt and then rebuild the topology. If you want a cheaper sculpting tool, look at 3DCoat.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will try to first get good at C4D before moving on to another application. I realized that I should only learn what I need and it is going to be a while before I find myself being limited by C4D, I am too much of a noob for that to happen.
