*********** UPDATED DECEMBER 7, 2012 *****************
Ok, this is going to be my first big project that I will do on Unity. My main target audience is teen(18-25). It is an adventure/RPG game. My main inspiration for this story is the Zelda Series, so any similarities with zelda, is only a mere coincidence >.> lol As of now, we are only a two people team, so anyone interested in joining please send me a PM. The main synopsis of the story is that the main character, Merek, is forced to go on a quest to find a magical stone with tremendous power. Below is some background of the main character:
Merek is an orphan who was raised in the town of Sylvania. His family was part of the government of Sylvania. When he turned 10 years old, he was left on his own. It is unknown why his parents left him alone. Life in Sylvania was not easy, and with no food or money, you are left with nothing. Since he had no other options, he decided to steal in order to survive. He often stole rations and money from passing by carts that were taking merchandise to the upper class area of the town. With nowhere else to go, he runs to the horses’ stable and finds a place to sleep somewhere inside the stables. Years passed and he had gotten used to the life of a thief in the streets. Every night he still remembers his parents and always wonders why did they left him alone.
The story sets in medieval times in the town of Sylvania(a fantasy town). This is the main town and also the biggest. My partner was working on the map of the town. This is how it is going to be(well, basic layout):
I already made the model of Merek and my partner is modeling the buildings. We are are at the stage of making the basic character controller scripts for the main movements.
Thank you for the comments, it motivates me more to get the project going =D
I am comic artist and this was actually a story inspired by zelda for a comic that I was planning on drawing, but I thought it would be super, duper awesome if it was a game. So I decided to give it a go =D
I’m a fan of manga/anime style art, so I like that piece of concept art. A Zelda-ish game is always fun too. The story is a little cliche, but that’s fine, as long as it’s interesting and dynamic. It seems to be heading in a classical RPG way, so it sounds good.
However, I hope you have a team, or are looking for one. The amount of work to finish a game of such magnitude is something that studios work on for years, unless it’s made short or is of low quality. I don’t want to discourage you from this, but I advise you to have a look at all the components that build up the Zelda series, other hack 'n slash style games, analyse them and then determine the amount of work (textures, models, animations, code etc.) required for your project. Ideally, you’d want to make a game design document so you and anyone else would know exactly where the project is heading technically and aesthetically. Proper organisation is key for a large project like this.
That said, I look forward to further development of this if you can get it going, as I’m definitely a fan of the genre (in fact, I’m planning on working on a 3D hack 'n slash game in the future). I’d offer my help, but I’m afraid my skills with Unity3D aren’t quite adequate just yet.
Thank you very much for the comment and having time to share your opinion. I will do my best to keep it interesting and dynamic throughout the story. As for the development of the game, I do know the amount of time and work it is put into this game. I am indeed in search of a team, I will soon start in search of programmers and 3D artists. I need all the help I can get, so just let me know if you’d be interested in helping me out with this project. I just hope I can find a committed team, I’ve had bad experiences in the past with online collaboration.
Good to know that you’ve already considered the challenges!
Collaborations can be shaky whether it’s online or not, so I do hope you can find a good group of people.
Yea, I like to dream, but I am also realistic, so I know what am I getting into. I do hope I find a good team too. For the time being, I will just keep working on concepts for characters, towns, dungeons, weapons, etc…
Lol if you don’t dream , then there is no motivation =P
I will do my best for the plot to keep the player hooked. I am aiming for manga style, but not realistic like Final Fantasy. Good examples of the style I am aiming is Kingdom Hearts and Zelda. There will definitely be magic and special weapons. I will update with new concept art that I sketched either tomorrow or Wednesday.
Do you already thought about the plattform for which the game is ? Just PC or also Android or iOS ?
If you’re still looking for some team members send me a pm. I’m a software developer and looking for some interesting project to participate. This project sounds like a great challange.
I am aiming for PC(Mac Windows) as I really have no idea of how to work for mobiles. I’ll try to start small, as it is a big project. I made a Unity game once:
As simple as it looks, took me about a month to do lol so I want to start small and aim for something everyone has, a PC.
If you are a committed person, I will be glad to have you in my team. I will PM you my skype screen name. As of now, I am still on concept art, so the real deal will begin once I have the pieces together.
What’s the stone for ? Im sure your main character could figure it out without the stone. I don’t get what your heart’s desire or direction has to do with the plot.
Well, he knows what the stone is for, which is why he is looking for it. The stone allows the person who holds it to find the truth about all his questions, and the biggest question he has is, what happened to his parents? Why did they left him? etc.
