Mesh breaks when applying a vertex displacement

Hi guys,

Not sure if simply I did something wrong, but the sphere splits (see below) when I add a simple gradient noise to the vertex position in object space.

I’ve tried using Unity’s build-in sphere object, blender’s UV sphere / Ico sphere with smooth shading and/or auto smooth on.

This is done in HDRP 2020.3.13f1

Any help will be much appreciated!

I wasn’t able to relates these post earlier because I wasn’t really extruding normal, but reading the post you linked in greater detail, I found that bgolus mentioned that seams are causing the issue here, and it all make sense now. I’m able to fix the issue by doing a projection from view in blender where all seams are connected.
