[meta] Regarding [closed] threads.

Would it be possible to use [Closed] tag only for threads the moderators are unhappy with.

Perhaps [Resolved] would be a better tag to indicate that no further responses are expected.
This will also make it easier for beginners to select threads that may contain information that will assist then.

Regards,

This is not a silly idea. Added the [Meta] tag so others can see. Currently the architecture does not exist to do this. Typically threads are closed for several reasons

  • The original question was poor
  • The posts have gone off topic from the original question
  • The posts have gotten nasty
  • The question has been successfully resolved in the comments in such a way that there is no answer to accept
  • The question has been answered correctly, but posts are continuing
  • The question has been made redundant by an upgrade to unity

As you can see a question marked closed does not mean there is no good information to be found. Closed simply means there is no need of further answers to the question.

From time to time we delete closed questions that have no useful information. But there are only a few mods who have the time for this. And thousands of questions that should be deleted.

There’s a mechanism for accepting answers: click the checkmark, which turns the answer green, thereby marking the question as answered. Questions should not be closed just because an answer was accepted; a correct answer can be become incorrect over time as the engine changes. Off-topic stuff and so on should just be deleted, since this isn’t a forum. Comments that are actually answers should be converted to answers (seems I’ve been doing this more lately…comments should be used to clarify the question, or to make some remark that’s related but doesn’t actually answer the question).
