Milkshape FBX animation problem

Hello every one

Dear CommUnity, I have a problem…
I’ve created and animated a model in Milkshape and exported it to FBX format to use in Unity.
But Unity didn’t show animations correctly :frowning:

I’ve tried to import FBX back to Milkshape and check the animations and they were perfect.
I’ve tried some other programs also and they all showed animations as they’re supposed to be

Here is FBX in Milkshape:

And here is the same model in Unity:

Fist on the right side (chars left) is entering the kayak… and it shouldn’t :hushed:
Same model with same animation but looks different. Any ideas why? How can I correct this? :expressionless:

Halp plix plox

Try baking animations.

Hmm… but Bake Animation checkbox in Unity is always disabled :s
I don’t know how to enable it… im new in all of this

What version of FBX are you using?

I have no idea  Whatever version Milkshape 1.8.4 exporter is using
But I have Autodesk FBX converter  Can you tell me what FBX version will work with Unity?

FBX converter doest have bake option included only basic export options. All versions work with it.

the thing you could do is get trial version of 3dsmax and import amodel into 3dsmax and animate it there and export via FBX plugin.

If I knew how to use 3dsmax I would use it from the start
So there is no way to persuade Unity to show FBX model animations made in Milkshape correctly :frowning:
OK… thanks anyway

This sounds a bit weird. Can you post your FBX? I want to see if looks correct in 3dsMax…

Sure  Here is my Gina the Giraffe <3
Rowing forward is loop animation from frame 200 to 240

To properly view FBX files, use the FBX viewer that comes with the FBX SDK.

To view a FBX file in any other application (Milkshape, Unity, etc…) means the FBX file needs
to be converted first before you can view it. There can be many errors in conversion.

The FBX viewer does not convert files, so it’s the best way to view them.

I can see the same problem in 3dsMax, so I’m not so sure it’s a problem in Unity…

My recommendations:

  • Try exporting other format (like dae - maybe it will be more compatible)
  • Try baking animation before export

Hmmm… that’s terrible
But thank you  I’ll try to think of something

I’ve got the same problem with the animations made in Milkshape.

Just to let you know, animations from Milkshape won’t look proper in Unity unless you use the Zero Joints tool on the joints. I’m not sure if you have to redo the animations afterward though.

(bookmarked)

My simple “idle” and “walk” animations made using Milkshape and exported as “alias FBX” look just fine in unity.

Well I really should say, the same as they looked in Milkshape anyways. (I’m not an artist) L

try moving your object in milkshape to the origin position 0.0.0

group it then export.
