Min specs to run Unity 3D iOS?

What is the minimum specs to run at a decent frame rate Unity iOS? I plan to buy a Macbook and want to be able to develop on the go.

There are no minimum specs, aside from an Intel Mac (not PPC) running 10.6.

Well I bought a Mac Mini and it works just fine, but it starts to lag when I have Unity + MonoDevelop + Safari + xCode open. Not sure what the specs are on the Macbook compared to the mini though. I got the Mini for the cheap cost.

The mini and Macbook have essentially identical specs; sounds like you have an older model with 1GB RAM though. If you want to have several large apps open at once without disk swapping, you should have at least 2GB (which is the minimum for newer models).

I’m looking to go used for a macbook as for its just a plus to develop outside.

@Eric5 - I believe I have the latest mini. I think I bought it in the beginning of 2010.

@DigitslShock - I think you can get away with an older one, but don’t expect blazing speed.

Thats a tricky thing cause MacBooks (non pro) were deliveried with Intel GPUs
whatever you do you must not end on such a model, you need an NVIDIA gpu in so if you really want a mac book consider either getting a new or refurb one or double check the specs of what you buy.

and I agree with above. 2GB RAM is the reasonable minimum, optimally you have 4GB RAM

Ahha! I checked and I in fact do only have 1GB of memory. Well that explains the lag. Eric5h5 was correct. Mine is a 2009 model. Please hold while I upgrade to 8GB…

Yeeha!! 8gigs in my Mac Mini!! smooth as butta.

Got the memory from macslaes.com for $112 instead of Apples $600. Might not be as good as Apples, but works for me  and I installed it myself.

Ramjet is the place to go for cheap, but good, RAM for Macs.

Nah, Apple gets their RAM from the same places as everyone else, nothing special about it. They just mark it up way high for lazy people, though their RAM markup these days for most of their models is a little less ludicrous than it used to be.

But if you get RAM for macs ensure that you buy compatible one (kingston has such special ram). just dropping in normal one is a very bad idea as their termal design isn’t mac friendly and can lead to fried ramslots to mainboards in 12-24 months.
