Mind Jacket - Demo - Work in progress

UPDATED: v0.2 Released. Based on your feedback, the next feature implemented was two new scenes, one intro scene to help set-up and explain the current situation, a another to help draw a little closure as to what the hell was going on provided a “win” condition is met . Currently the game play lasts for a little under 10 minutes, which I realize is a long time to spend in the park. More variety there is planned for the next update.

Playable here: Mind Jacket

This started out as a learning project and I’ve gotten to the point where there are enough features and functionality that it could be considered a game. It still needs a lot of polishing and a few more features to be a legitimate reason for players to dump some time on it. Just looking for some feedback as how it feels so far.

Thanks

uhm, well… lets see, you start the game in some weird bathroom with a bed on the floor. you go outside and ur in a red world with topless women to the right and yellow dogs flying back and forth. after you nock some giant cans over you go into a field with endless spawns of teddy bears, now im not sure if this is a joke, but… WHAT THE %$#% IS GOING ON?!

Sold!

Haha, well at least it’s invoking the emotional response I was looking for.

So what you’re saying is that I should focus on implementing more of the story to explain the situation and grant it closure?

Thanks!

To also shed a little light on your question, I’m not sure if you saw the game brief on the main site found here: http://thoughtvandal.com/

frogger?

i think you should start again… maybe…

Wow. That was messed up. I made it passed the dogs and got mobbed by scary teddy bears. You should have the camera shift to the side when the gun comes out. Otherwise all I could do was aim my crotch at the bears and fire away all willy nilly.

WTF!? ummmmmm…

Thanks for the responses!

Even:

Has helped me focus on what to work on next.

Kyuss - I agree, that is something that I would like to add in the future. In the mean time you can manually move the camera with the “q” and “e” keys and zoom in with the scroll wheel to aim better.

I want that main character to be a main character in a triple A shooter. I mean seriously, that guy is awesome. He has a teddy bear and a gun and looks like one fucked up individual. He would be awesome in a 3rd person shooter.

Other than that, the word “Quality” comes to mind. :stuck_out_tongue:

Keep at it!

Sorry, I was at a loss for words.

I do have one suggestion, though: Ability to change between 1st / 3rd person views.
I like the main character, did you do it model it yourself? the teddy bear thing was pretty funny as well.

ok…Evil Teddy Bear Apocalypse? Not the kind of story I thought it would be…

haha this is fun. also WTF!!. But good start. I could use those darn bears in my project.

  1. Camera needs work ( especially indoors, and while shooting)
  2. why jump on space-bar up ?? (is jump going to be charge-based, if not you can just delay your jump function)
  3. Even if its pre-beta or alpha sounds are always welcomed
  4. if you animated and created the player yourself props ( i don’t model or animate that well, only great at coding :)). but tidy up animations (e.x. animation for pushing objects, shooting) am sure you are working on all of this anyway.

If you need scripts : check out my shooter package (FPX.Zero)

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes the character is my concept, design, modeling and animation. I’ve basically created everything art related in the game, save a few textures like grass and fire.

The camera was designed to be able to zoom into first person, but that got a little messed up somewhere along the way. I’ve generally had quite a bit of issues with the camera not working exactly like I wanted. I’m fairly new to scripting in general and it definitely needs work.

The jump on space bar up had to do with the standing jump animation mostly. I know it’s not the common way to do it, and I’m not sure what the best solution is. I’ve got a couple ideas that I think would work in a way I’d be happy with, but I’ve yet to implement them.

Sounds are on my list as well.

More than general scripts l4mishotiz, I’d love to have a programmer ( ; I honestly have trouble figuring out how to get other peoples scripts to work. For some reason, if I don’t write it, it’s really difficult for me to get scripts to function properly, if at all. Like I’d love to have the locomotion, but I might as well lobotomize myself trying to figure that out.

Fix your link with 0.2.html on all referenced links. You broke the link to 0.1

Thanks, the top link works. I’ve fixed the bottom link.

Seems to me it is still broken (404 error) when clicking on the link in the first post and the one in your signature.

Ah the signature. Forgot about that. Thanks! So much to keep track of. It’s now set to just the main web page that links to the game.
