Minecraft Story Mode by TellTale (poll)

So if you missed it:

I know that I can be a cynic and I do try to tone it down, but I’m struggling on this one.

In it’s nature Minecraft is built on the lack of story and it is actually one of its features that made it stand out and thrive. That you could just do whatever and didn’t get bogged down by the need for motivation, character development, or story.

Conversely Telltale thrives on the opposite, where the story is EVERYTHING.

It’s like bubble gum in trail mix. How is this supposed to work when the two experiences are in such disjunction?

Seriously, I’m asking, how could this possibly work?

wait this is an actual thing or are you joking??

… because HAHAAHAHAHAAHAA stupid money greedy idiots milking crap for everything they can…

… its really just SHAMEFUR DISPRAY!!

I voted for potato because I’m disappointed that microsoft’s first use of their new IP is to sellout immediately. Now telltale is gonna make like 100 minecraft episodes for $20 each.

I’ll assume the other potato is because of french fries.

Minecraft has a few disjoint demographics. But afaik their main demographic is kids. I don’t know how they will respond to an episodic story mode. Probably not so well.

If I were to expand the mincraft offering I would work on making a arcade type kart game incorporating the minecraft characters. Call it “MINEKARTS” or something and let the kids drive around in the minecraft universe as a creeper, steve, enderman, etc, all with character specific abilities to use. Think Mariokart / Sonic All-Stars.

But whatever. I’m sure the people who know did their research.

People still aren’t tired of Telltale, apparently. I got sick of their work half-way through the first Walking Dead. Tried The Wolf Among Us recently, couldn’t bring myself to finish that either.
Their games only provide the illusion of choice. Gameplay only exists in so far as you walk from one cut scene to the next.
They’re basically just crappy movies marketed as games. Because if they actually made movies, it would become too obvious just how bad they are.

At this point I wouldn’t dismiss it outright. I could definitely see something that is aiming to be fun and adventurous work.

You have to admit though that you’re annoyed that this is microsoft’s FIRST move after obtaining mojang & minecraft lol. I can’t imagine how that meeting went.

“Okay guys, we just purchased the IP for the most creative, open and freely moddable and extendable sandbox game in the genre! … Let’s turn it into a story on rails with paid content every few months that requires less brain power than a potato clock, but slightly more interactivity than a microwave burrito!”

First Hatred, now this. Has the world gone mad? Did that throat bacteria that makes people [more] stupid get into our water supply? These guys are making me reconsider wanting to work in the field of education ._.

If you going to ask for opinion at least provide some info:

Read those bullets and info quest. To me it’s freedom of minecraft with npc/quest from telltale. Maybe something like Cube World is doing. Maybe towns and dungeons to explore. There’s a lot of possibilities and it’s too early to judge.

Im interested to see what direction this will take. One of my favourite things about Minecraft is the distinct lack of a story and you are very rarely pigeonholed or forced into a particular set of goals that have been pre-dictated by a game designer. I had the freedom to explore caverns for hours, then build a massive wooden Megaman, then set it on fire; all simply because I could and I wanted to.

TellTale games have worked well for decision based settings (Walking Dead is probably their best work for their style) so im not sure how they will adapt to Minecraft. Perhaps you will get to be a Creeper and choose which building to blow up?

Also, I don’t necessarily think this is Unity-Related in any way (Unless TellTale are using Unity to make the game) so it will probably be locked soon-ish.

@Andy-Touch that creeper idea could happen. It’s already been said they don’t wanna make a narrative for Steve, so it’s going to just be some random minecraft stuff. I wonder how they’re going to approach the graphics…

I thought it was industry related.

I don’t know exact forum rules, im not a mod. :stuck_out_tongue:
