Missing meshes and materials-FBX

Hello

Missing meshes and materials
When we open our Unity-file in another project than it was created, the file cant find its meshes (from FBX file) and materials - in the inspector it says Missing (Mesh) and Missing (Material), though they are all in the Assets folder. Does anyone know about this problem? Is it maybe an upgrading problem between 1.6 and 2.0 - we can’t figure it out.

Mark

PS: thanks very much for your answers last time about MAYA / UNITY problems. It helped :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Where are your original .fbx and texture files? Did you move them outside of Unity or from the Unity editor? If you move an asset outside of Unity, that can cause errors. If you’re migrating from 1.6x to 2.0, you can either copy the entire 1.6x project folder into a new 2.0 folder (what I normally do), then open that folder in Unity 2.0.

Hi Mark,

This is Ethan, we met last week. Are you still having this problem after we reimported the assets and got them to show up? Can you create new Models in Maya and properly imort them into Unity? Please send this Unity Project folder to us using the “Report Bug” app found in the Unity application folder. Just attach the zipped Project folder to the bug report and I’ll have a look at it as soon as it arrives.

Ethan

I too have started having issues with Unity importing FBX models.

I’ve been creating models with Wings 3D, Hexagon and Carrara and importing them in Unity without issue before today.

Now if I try to bring in even something like a simple cube via FBX, even to a new empty project Unity 2.0.1r2 (12409) will either lockup or crash. This is very puzzling since I’ve not made any changes to the development machine and things were running great before. Also I am able to open the FBX model correctly in other applications.

To make matters worse, I am unable to report this issue via the REPORT BUG application. Every time I try it crashes when I hit the SUBMIT button… Grrrr! Is there some other way to report the error and get you a sample project?

FYI I am running Mac OS X 10.5 with all the latest patches.

That’s really strange (and painful). It would be great if you got in touch with support@unity3d.com and asked for help. You’ll probably be asked to provide some information about your computer, and that way we can make sure this gets solved in a future release.

d.

FYI, if you’re using Carrara 6.x, I’ve reported a number of issues with the .FBX exporter to Daz3D which, AFAIK, they are currently working on. Hopefully the next Carrara release will include a fix.
