Mission: Defender is a small project, which is basically a try to combine simplicity with non-stop action for different mobile and gaming platforms.
Main story of the game is the following: astronomers from different countries discovered a huge threat from space, which is about to destroy the planet Earth. Different space pilots called to the rescue. You are one of them. Now the planet should be safe.
Obviously the concept still requires a lot of work, so i will update this thread with new results from time to time.
Here is the screenshot of the main stage in Unity:
This is a game that would look awesome with 2D and not 3D. Your concept sketches are awesome, and I personally feel 3D will never give you the crisp look and detail you are wanting to achieve.
Thanks for feedback hellraizerhhh! I was considering the game to be 2D at first, but i’m still not sure how to make 2D graphics resolution independent. Anyway, so far I just try to reproduce the concept in Unity to reach a playable state as soon as possible. I will play with the overall graphics style after i’m done with the scene and assets.
Looking good so far (Development wise), but may I recommend using 2D art instead of 3D? I reckon that the rockets and asteroids would looks really awesome with some quality 2D art. Your drawing skills are up to scratch as well - why not color some of them, and chuck em in the game?
Thank you suctioncup! Well, the game was actually planned as 2D, but 2D animation requires different skills, yet i would like it to be resolution independent. So far I couldn’t find a solution, except making it 3D. Anyway, i’m waiting for the nearest Unity release, which will allow me to work in 2D a bit easier and probably we’ll have a chance to compare the results. I’ll try to prepare some 2D content. Thanks again!
I love how you’ve sketched all the information. That works so much better than the post with just text! The concept looks great, just as the assets! Good job en have fun finishing it!
Thanks a lot SEG.Veenstra! I hope everyone will have some fun from this game. I’m glad to see people express their thoughts about it. It definitely pushes any development forward
Well, i’ve started to reproduce the assets in 2D and here is the first one:
I will start importing the 2D graphics into Unity as soon as the latest build is out. So far, i’ll continue editing the 3D scene and creating 2D assets.
