Mixamo animation service survey! (Get free stuff)

First off I want to thank all the unity users who have made use of our services. I also want to think everyone we met and Unity’10 and for all the offers we’ve gotten to work on our latest unity project!

For those who don’t know about us, we offer a pretty amazing motion capture service on the lower end of pricing. With the ability to automatically retarget our motions onto your character, fast and responsive customer service and the ability to customize your motions with variation sliders, we really have one of the best services. You can view our animations on your characters in real time too thanks to our service running on the unity web player! You can fully animate a character (7-12) animations in under 2-3 hours.

New Features
Mixamo has just released a new feature called the Arm Space Slider. This customization control allows you to adjust the position of the arms relative to the body for any motion - preventing arm mesh penetration for differently proportioned characters! Monsters welcome!

I’m sure our service can help you with your animations.

I tried creating some “pro” models and kept getting errors. I also uploaded my own characters and could not get them to map correctly. Then I gave up.

yesterday i also tried to make a pro model and got an error saying that character creation failed… then i tried again an hour or so later and got the same error saying character creation failed … so i sent an email to your support email address yesterday and have not heard from them yet … looks pretty good if you could actuallly get the character that you can create on the site, but till then, i’ll stick with my own talents for character creations … oh and seeing as rigging a character can take so much time, it might be good to have that service on your site also… if it worked that is

If you could provide and details on what went wrong it would really help us. We want to make our service as usable as possible and if you gave up we’ed appreciate knowing what was wrong in your opinion.

Thanks,

Thanks Ullukai, I’ll look into what happened with your support e-mail. As for rigging we are actually working on something just like that. It’s still in the pipeline, but we’ll be keeping users informed.

I eventually got the pro character that I had created and they look really nice although the service seems to be down again today. Unfortunately for a fully animated character for use in a game, I would need the model and maybe 5-10 different animations. That gets a bit expensive for a hobbiest. For a professional however, I think that this is probably a great service. I like that you have examples on turbosquid to try out before purchasing custom characters. It would be great if you had them with the walk, run and idle functions so that they would be easy to try out in Unity.

I think that there should be a bundle for use in games of the most used animations (idle, walk, run, strafe, backwards, jump, land, hurt, attack (or shoot), die, etc.) just to make it easier to find and purchase. At least you could make a category where these basic game animations could be found.

I find the mapping function for using my own characters confusing. I get the error that “mapped paths from each node are different” and do not know what this means or how to fix it, so I assume that my knowledge is not sufficient to use this tool. I would most likely use mixamo to add animations to existing models which I cannot do without first figuring out the mapping tool.

Just some feedback that is hopefully helpful. Maybe you are looking for more professional people and I am not your target audience?

We are about to release exactly that on the unity assets store. Bundle packs for game creation and prototypes, and at highly reasonable prices. Prices much more geared towards the hobbyist and indie users of Unity.

Keeps your eyes out. you won’t be offended by the prices, I promise.

Great! I look forward to it.

So, I went on to the mixamo web site to find more information and I found the demo scene “animationdrivenplayablecharacter”. So I downloaded it and fired it up in Unity 3 and it first had to convert it from an older format. Some normal map setting had to be fixed. Next, the rotation seemed not to be working right. If Jane is standing still and you hit “a” or “d” she rotates but her legs do not move. Not very impressive, so I thought I would try to see if I could get Jane to work with the locomotion system. So first I disabled the “root motion” scripts. When I set her up, I get the error AnimationClip “walk” is missing animation curve for the rotation of the bone “master”. So no locomation system either. In general, I could not get the demo to work acceptably with the mixamo character and animations.

bradjensen68,

Thanks for trying the motion controller but I think it’s important to understand the project is only a “demo,” it’s not set up with rotational animations, (you or anyone else could easily add your own) we are simply showcasing the power of the root motion controller. What makes this different from the default controller is that fact that the character controller is moved with the root of the character skeleton. This allows people to use complex animation that very in speed and movement such as the zombie motion displayed with the project.

This is not a replacement for the locomotion system, which is a project we did not develop and have not tested with any of our current scripts.

My point was more along the lines of “I don’t think your demo is working in Unity 3”. You might want to check that out.

What I see is not what the your video shows. If I am not mistaken, you already have the rotational animation (jane@turn) in the demo, it is just not working correctly.

Also, the locomotion system is rather popular and it might not be a bad idea to try to get your animations to work with it to increase your sales to Unity users.

i have used mixamo motions with more than one char and i recomend dealing with them .
also there customer services is really good .

The animations are fantastic. one question:
After I have some animations, I can customize them for all my characters, or every animation customization is only for one character?

@bradjensen68 thanks for the note, we’ll get around to updating for 3.1 asap, we’re just swamped with clients right now. The locomotion system is popular but I haven’t seen enough people using it or enough people asking about it along with our animations to warrant dedicating time to it. I’ll let our team know and see if we can get something together in the new year.

@mrbdrm thanks, we’re doing our best!

@aigam: when you buy an animation from us it’s customized for that single animation. However if, for example, your applying this animation to an uploaded skeleton the animation can be used on ANY character that uses the same skeleton. If your skeletons are different then no, you cannot use the animations across different skeletons, you will need to upload the different skeletons and redownload the animation.

The quality of the animations is excelent, and I really love the pro-characters option.
Do you plan to add more options to the pro characters?

Thanks aigam. No new options are planned for the pro creator, we’re ramping up to expand our library of motions soon, so keep your eyes on us.
