Modelling - Blender or Unity?

Hey guys,

So after years of wanting to get into animation and game making, I’ve finally decided to make the jump and start learning :).

I’m not trying to create a killer game, or even publish one - in any capacity, but I really would love to learn more about game making and everything that goes into my favourite past-time ^^.

My question though: What is the best program to create static objects (Not characters or animation) in? I’ve seen some people say they use Unity and others import their work from Blender, so I’m a bit confused as to what is accepted as “general good practice” and what is not? Naturally, I’m only going to be creating basic, low poly models to begin with, but once I have progressed past that stage which engine is better used?

I would assume Blender, as it’s an engine built for modelling?

Forgive me if this has been asked before, I did do a basic search before posting but most question pertain to animation.

Many thanks ^^

There are some add-on products for Unity, such as ProBuilder that let you do simple modeling inside of the Unity editor, but that’s generally for laying out large, rough areas for prototyping entire levels.

The short answer to your question is: use Blender to create you models, then import them into Unity.

Thanks, mate, exactly what I was looking for ^^

New to Unity and Blender but I was able to create a basic model of a die in Blender and get the model into Unity and it appears in HoloLens when I run the app. Problem is HoloLens does not recognize it as a hologram, in fact it does not even recognize the surfaces per se. The cursor just ignores the model. Any ideas?

Ok, obvious answer if you understand Unity (noob). I needed to add a collider. Hopefully this helps the next noob.
