hello
was wondering , how much poly count I should not exceed for a single model in my project ?
an approximation amount if it is hard to tell
I’m not sure how many models will render at specific time by now , but I want general consideration to take in account when modeling the characters
any feedback will be appreciated thanks
I think there is a hard limit at 65k polys (or is it vertices? I’m not sure).
But is this what you are asking, or what is sensible for something real-time?
And are you talking about characters only?
Around 15k is good for characters nowadays (I assume we are not talking about something like ios, or android platforms, right? ). Although if you want to have a ton of them you should go for much less than that.
I’m talking about windows or webplayer build not mobile or other stuff
and yeah mainly characters cause I’m modeling a character to play with and it has like 2k faces and it looks awfull and I thought I got alot of faces already
with your suggestion I feel happy now , 15k is very good to get a good looking model tho when I get subsurface modifier to it I get something like 20k+ faces but I can get it lower and still will be a great model
I’m asking this cause I read somewhere that 600~900 faces could be the limit for game friendly models but I think this info was from stone ages
900 faces is somewhat modest even for an ios game (if we are talking for 3gs+).
You can get away with 20k too. I think Uncharted had something like 30k for the (main, at least) characters. It all depends on what kind of game you are going for. GTA IV that had a lot of characters on screen at times, had something like 8k for example.
great that explains all I need to know
thanks very much
