Hi everyone,
I always like to read game development stories, e.g. in the past I read Unity Developer Magazine or the Unity Creative Magazine. Unfortunately, both are already discontinued for some time. But there is still this great WIP forum.
First I think I should introduce the basic idea of the game. Perhaps better with a video:
A few words about the goal and the game mechanics:
Tilt your Phone to move Mombari through 3D worlds while collecting magic rings along the way. Avoid touching ghosts or neutralize them with the magic wand. Only when all the magic rings have been gathered and he reaches the exit will Mombari be taken to the next stage.
The aim is to create a clear and concise game; to display only necessary data; to play without time limits. To neutralize ghosts, it is sometimes better to remain in a prime position for a moment before continuing. If Mombari is irreversibly trapped, the player must recognize the situation itself and press Restart.

Currently I’m reworking the options dialog. But I think in the next post I will write first about the control scheme (position of the buttons) and how it came about.
Unless there are certain things that you want to see in the next blog post prior to that?
Ciao,
Stephan
Initially it started with a control area on the right.
In tests nobody used the camera height control.
So it was removed.

Version 2
Nobody still did like it - including myself.
Main problem was: needed to much screen estate

Version 3
Already much better
still a small problem: the buttons were placed too close to the phone buttons.

Version 4
the solution was a small offset on the edges
so this is the final version

I won 3rd place of the Appcampus Germany competition with my game concept Mombari.
Many thanks to the Jury.
Awesome!
Delighted!
Microsoft MSDN Press Release (German): Microsoft Learn: Neue Qualifikationen für neue Karrierechancen
Now you can pause the game and continue where you left off.
The background is darkened and the options dialog with the new tilt sensitivity settings flies in.

There are now smooth transitions between scenes - the quality of the video could be better
Plus several smaller improvements.
Cheers,
Stephan
Quick mini demo of the menu, world, and level selection for the WP8 game Mombari and a few seconds in the level itself. This time with better video quality.
A number of testers are still requesting a d-pad option.
No test version yet, but here is a first draft how it could look like.
It’s will be of course an option. Default mode will remain tilt control.
(which I personally prefer).

Это красиво. It is beautiful.
A test render for level 20…

Stephan
Level 20 starts with a tracking shot from high above. I wonder if is too intense?
Relatively close to release (unless an error occurs that requires a dramatically high effort for fixing).
So I took some time to play a little. The result is a still render.
Enjoy

Again.

Mombari breaks into the arena to practice secretly…

Hi,
Yesterday was launch day of Mombari in the Windows Phone Store.

On launch day it got this ratings:
- 1 two star rating
- 8 four star ratings
-10 five star ratings
That’s an average of 4.42. Amazing!
Most of the ratings came from Germany. Only one or two from the USA. Not one rating from the UK. Um…
Anyway try it and let me know what you think:

Meanwhile Mombari is also available on iOS. Yay!
It’s winter now in Mombari’s world.
