After opening scripts inside of unity, the monodevelop splash appears, and after checking task manager there is a process running…but the program never actually starts. I am running Unity 5.3.3 on a windows computer. Any help would be HUGELY appreciated, as this is preventing any further work on our game.

This used to happen to me, I would open a script from Unity and MonoDevelop would just hang on the splash. What worked for me was force closing MonoDevelop from the task manager, only then it would work. If the problem persists even after the force close, then I’m not sure what tell you. Maybe try using VisualStudios as an alternative.
