Monopoly style game?

I’m attempting to prototype a monopoly style game that is time-turn based. I wanted to see if anyone could point me in the right direction with a question.

The biggest challenge i’m trying to figure out is:
How to move characters along to the next area of the “monopoly style” board. There will be multiple players so i’m trying to figure out how to make the characters be able to go to an open part of the board if there is a character in the way.
I’ve done some research and it seems like pathfinding would be one solution?

But I think this might be overkill because I just want my character to move one “monopoly” board space to the right or left and make sure they are not bumping into anyone.

I’m using the free version of unity.

Any thoughts?


Use an array to represent the board. You would then have simple rules that convert a location in the array to the corresponding on-screen location.

That is overkill…like twisted said, just manually specify points on each space for the maximum number of pieces and have them go there.
