Montague's Mount - A Psychological Narrative-driven Thriller (WIP)

“One desolate landscape… one solitary fisherman… and an island hiding memories around every turn”

From Polypusher Studios comes Montague’s Mount, a first person psychological rollercoaster ride through isolation, desolation and one man’s tortured mind all set against the bleakness of an isolated Irish island.

“It felt like this was never going to end. The world wasn’t going to stop crashing down until there was nothing left of me but dust.” - Keary Taylor

The mixture of cold Atlantic water and course sand in your mouth brings you back from unconsciousness. The wreckage of a boat’s hull that surrounds you, leads you to a solitary assumption; your vessel has been torn apart by the submerged rocks. The secrets of the island must be uncovered if you are ever going to find a way off. Where is everyone; is the island really uninhabited; what is lurking within the isolated caves; and what is that building on top of Montague’s Mount?

Coming soon for PC, Mac and Linux.

“For too long we have swept the problems of mental illness under the carpet… and hoped that they would go away” - Richard J. Codey

Well that would be telling, wouldn’t it… Montague’s Mount is a thriller like not before seen in gaming - so we don’t want to give the story away and ruin it for you. All we will say is that it is a disturbing psychological thriller, combining exploration and puzzle solving, all told against a ‘lump-in-the-throat’ story and environment. Ultimately you have to find out the story of what happen on the island, which in turn uncovers some shocking truths. You have been warned.

“This is all so familiar; I have been this way before. It was Peter and Aine who brought me this way. If only this unrelenting rain would give in, I could say for sure. Day after day, this perpetual dampness, crawling all over me, saturating everything on this island” - Montague’s Mount

Montague’s Mount’s story is set against the desolate and rugged scenery of Ireland. With this we are embracing ‘all things’ Irish. The Irish language (Gaeilge) is used extensively throughout Montague’s Mount and we believe it is the first mainstream game to promote the irish language.

Looks great…

Looks good. Can you post examples of some the puzzle solving/gameplay?

My other thought is music doesnt sound very Irish, perhaps some creepy Harp music?

Yes, some gameplay footage should hopefully be coming tomorrow; we are working hard to get the video complete.

great atmosphere, very spooky.

Amazing quality, can’t wait to see some gameplay.

Thanks for the kind words. I have worked hard to get the ambience right. It’s not quite there yet, but is definitely moving in the direction of the images in my head!

Regards,
Matt.

The environment is really cinematic. Nice work here. The graphics are really good also…AAA quality

This looks like a very promising game. Keep up the good work

Feel free to check me out as well

Many thanks for the kind words all

Update: Have added a quick gameplay video into the first post showing some of the world interactions and puzzle elements.

Regards,
Matt.

It’s looking fantastic. The slow, ponderous pace of the gameplay actually enhanced the atmosphere for me, the environment looks great, and I would totally pay extra for the OST.

I wish you best of luck seeing it through

Many thanks for the good wishes.

There will be an OST released to coincide with the game release; and I can tell you, the audio is taking shape extremely nicely indeed!

Regards,
Matt.

Loving it…Quallity is good, loved the texture.

Keep it up

Nice game play, very smooth. Perhaps you should have an English language option as well?

There is an full English version switchable via the options. Any Irish text displayed will always have an English subtitle if that language is chosen.

Regards,
Matt.

With the week just gone we have been working hard on a beach area that can be explored. This is just one of many coastal areas surrounding the Montague’s Mount island.

With all the environmental work, we are concentrating on the overall ambience and experience of ‘being there’. I am afraid still images just doesn’t do it the justice it deserves, you will have to wait until release to walk along this beach.

Hope you like it…

Truly amazing, I simply can’t wait to see the finished product of the game.

I have been storming around the coastal areas this week, so thought I would show some ‘ingame’ grabs.

Note: this area has some ‘plot’ interactions so I am mindful about showing too much… hope you like what I ‘can’ show…

Looking really good environment-wise! Keep it up!

Looks good.

Cheers guys… thanks for the kind words - being a sole indie developer can be a lonely existence at times!

@JamesArndt - The backstory is gripping as well… when I’m not modelling/coding (~14 hrs per day), i’m fleshing out the story into a Novelette/Novella. I am hope to bundle this with the release (or a special addition).
