Monument Valley Graphics Style

Hey !
I am not sure if this is the right subforum for posting this questions but couldn’t find any that fits and as Monument Valley is an iOS game I will post my question here:

I was wondering how was the Monument Valley Graphics style achieved? Like on the cubes one side is bright the other side is darker but its not really shaded at all. Can this graphics style be achieved with a default Unity3D shader? Or did the developer texture his models manually with that shading and then disabled shading in unity? I don’t get it :eyes: I think manual texturing that it looks like Monument Valley is a lot of work.
Don’t worry - I won’t do a clone. I have another idea would like to use that flat shaded graphics style.

Thank you in advance for any response.

There is many videos on the Unity forum/Youtube, maybe under showcase or blog that show Monument Valley development and interviews with the team and company

Peter Pashley did a great talk at Nordic Game 2014 about Monument Valley
From what he says, i believe they used a custom lighting model and shader to individually control the direction colours.

Its worth watching the whole talk, but he talks specifically about lighting here;

hope that helps
