For me that kinect+openNI example in the asset store (FREE) is pretty awesome and the latest thing I’d tried.
Lobbing fireballs:
I’m not using a kinect, but a Asus xtion pro live sensor and it can track 2 players really well. I was testing in a crammed space with it pointing up at my upper body, so it would work even better in a big room with area to move around and see your legs as well…
A* Pathfinding Pro is a well know and highly rated asset, but there is also a free version with all the basic features, it is not on the asset store, only on the author website : A* Pathfinding Project
At work I have pro so was looking at navmesh rather than plugins I bought a $10 plugin the other day for saving camera images to the phone’s gallery on iOS and android which was a real time saver. Can’t remember the name lol The mega products looks awesome.
Camera Shake - Do one thing and do it well. Want the camera to shake, cant be bothered rolling your own, all you have to do is add it to to the camera class, then you call _CameraShake.shake() in your script. You dont have to configure it or play around with it (I never even looked at the params – the default seems good enough), it simply works. Only $10. You will be surprised working in all sorts of projects you will want to shake the camera, all you ahve to do is import it and its up and running in less than 30 seconds.
Best five dollars I ever spent. Even though Unity 4 finally added its own built in copy and paste, this one still lets you select multiple components at once and choose which values to keep and which to overwrite. Especially useful if you make lots of tweaks while in Play Mode and want to save them.
Silverlining, while triton is getting talked about a lot, silverlining by the same author not so much.
What i love about it is not just the clouds but to let it manage the whole scene lighting
There’s also a package (forget the name ) with 100s of high res normal maps that just rocks
Substance db is amazing too when for sale. Even at 1k it’s a steal imho. So much value packed there!
I recently grabbed Unibill to save myself some effort for In App Purchases, and am really loving it. Not only does it make it almost trivially easy to set up IAP, it’s also seamlessly cross-platform including simulated in-Editor support. It’s designed well, documented well, seemingly implemented well, and the author is responsive on the forums.
I want to see more stuff like this in the Asset Store.
Theres an absolute ton of great asset store stuff, loads of obvious ones, i think the one thats kept me the most fixated and obsessing over has been been Fluidity which is a very neat fluids simulation that’s turned out to be very versatile and with ongoing updates, actually amazing looking, to where I didnt think i’d ever be privy to use such amazing software, unity’s giving me a lot of these moments though, especially when compute shaders get involved and so on. A kind of old one that people seemed to get het up about is Nuaj, not so much support these days but a very happy purchase, some of these things are absolutely beautiful
The Localized Dialogue and Cutscene plugin. I bought it within a month of release and already it was a good system but it has been updated and improved so much it is one of the best assets on the store and can do a great deal more than people realise (until you use the system). The dark tonic stuff - the core gamekit and Master Audio are excellent. Component copier is a must. Stuff like b-loop and grungifier often go under the radar but are novel ways of doing certain things that can really help with optimisation.
