I have 3Ds Max 2011 x64, Educational Verzione. For some reason, the MOV option is not offered when trying to save the movie file. Is this just a handicap to the educational version or did they cut it out altogether?
You’ll probably get more responses to this on a dedicated 3ds max forum or in the external tools part of this forum. ![]()
I have 3ds max 2010 and no way to save as .mov. Where is it you are saving from?
And may I ask why?
I always save my renders/animations as lossless images and put them together in an external app even if I don’t intend to do anything with them.
I used to export video from Max (R4 – so this is a while back) direct to MOV, so I don’t know why they’d remove the feature but … that said … just dump it out as a series of PNGs and convert to MOV later. (If I were dumping to MOV I’d use PNG as my codec anyway.)
what external app do u use?
It’s never a good idea to render an animation directly to any animation format. Render to individual frames and create the animation format later.
Otherwise you risk losing the entire file (and possibly thousands of previously rendered frames) if your app suddenly hiccups or there’s a powercut or something.
Exporting to individual frames is always safer and the worst that can happen is you lose a single frame if it crashes.
ok so again, what prog do i use to bring the frames together?
For a price, programs like Premiere, After Effects, Final Cut, etc.
For free, a program like Blender can be made to do it and I’m sure there are other free/open source video editing programs more akin to Premiere.
I use After Effects.
Isn’t Composite, formerly Toxik, included in 3ds Max 2011?
I’m pretty sure that was one of the big new features. You should look around for it.
It’s a fully functional compositing app now built into 3ds max if I’m not completely mistaken.
ok so if it IS in the educational verzione, where would it be? Toxik, I mean. This is for a cutscene. Preview shown here
Pretty sure Toxik isn’t included in the student version but could be wrong.
It is in the list of programs as Composite.
3ds max 64bits version don´t suport mov files! apple don´t have suport for 64bit or something like this…
3ds max 32bits version can handle mov format!
cya
well…
thats bullcrap…
Alright so a bit of research led me to Sony Vegas and QT Pro.
The missing MOV export with any 3ds Max 64 bit version is because Apple fails to release 64 bit Quicktime support on Windows. 64bit apps only can talk to 64 bit parts of the OS, but as i said there is no 64 bit QT available on Windows. You still can use the 32 bit version of Max and export to Quicktime even on 64 bit windows. This is true for any 64 bit windows software that does’nt provide a bridge hack arround that, After Effects CS5 / Adobe being the only one i know off, coming with that feature…
