Hi all ,
I am a newbie and please forgive me if i am wrong or sound too dumb.
I have a dream to develop a online multiplayer strategy game based on Cricket .
It will have users creating a team , find other players online and challenge for a match. The more the user plays and acheives , he will be given more skill points to buy goodies and make the team even more stronger. While the game play is more of strategy and some management elements , it needs to be built using a backend sql server database so that it can save the statistics and skill levels of all teams.
Graphically the game is not expecting more than a fine 2d or board game kind… but i am not sure if i can build a gave with features like above using unity 3d. Also as cricket is played only 1 on 1 , i dont have to draw 100s of players positions or info… all a player can do is select a team to play against and stary playing cricket . once match is over the team will update its skill points in server based on its previous results…
I know i can’t directly dive into this kind of game without much game development experience and i am willing to learn as well as play around with unity3d building small sample games but only if there is a possibility to acheive such game using unity 3d . Else i will think of other options but i am very impressed with unity3d that it will be great if i can venture into game development with unity 3d.
One can imagine this as a database centric server-client aplpication which has some thing to do with graphics …maybe a MMO Cricket
I am having good experince in c#.net and not much in graphics or modelling.
i waited eagerly to know , if not answer to my question but at least some kind of guidance from the unity community but even after 89 views no one opened their mouths… now the “support” i can expect from unity , i better stay off from unity and think of other options… it doesn’t matter whether unity is capable or not ,but the level of support is clear enough that one can stay away from considering unity for developing “serious” stuff… i came to unity only i was told the support from community is great… but what a let down bye bye… first and last post on unity
I’m sorry to hear you are disappointed with the response from the community.
Although the short answer is “yes, you can do that with Unity”, the post does make it look as though you were asking for advice from people with experience of this type of game. It is an ambitious project and it is possible that nobody has completed anything like that before.
If you are starting from scratch with Unity, you will probably find it easier to get going with a simpler single player version of the game. Even if this is just about moving the players around and activating animations, sounds, etc, this will give you a good basis for adding multiplayer features. Generally, you will get a very helpful response from the community if you can keep questions focused on specific problems you run into while working on the game.
thanks andeee
yeah even i have plans to start from scratch only but wanted to make sure whether such game is in the limits of unity… more than yes or no i expected some one to answer how you did . Had they directed me to read something or some link i shud have felt better…anyway thanks very much for your reply
