Its my first human, and an update to the nude model I posted before. The clothes are part of the model, but the textures are changeable.
All that needs to be done left for the Muscular version of the humans is.
Animations
Mouth
Thats it,please rate the model in the above poll, and leave any feedback.
I can see you are a beginner but, this unfortunately needs work. Think you need to follow just a few more tutorials.
@tylernocks
Do you mind if I ask, what needs work? Is it the facial features? Hair, eyes, arms, etc…?
Your topology!!!
Try to generate better surface for your model.
Work with your proportions and the texture is too simple.
But the modeler way is a world like the scripting or drawning, is an art!!
Practice is the secret. cheer up friend
@Range1
I don’t understand,mind explaining a bit more please.
I’ve only been modeling, like really trying, for around 2 months now,but I don’t know all that is to it yet.
Go and google Human Proportions.
Even cartoonish models will follow it to a degree.
TBH, I would try and get good at sketching a human first. Once you can successfully draw a front on picture of a person that looks real, you are closer to being ready to model a person.
Alright I have to finally say,I am editing the model now,and I can’t see what you mean…Though its not perfect, the human looks like it follows a normal human being. Please explain what is wrong with the model so I know which part to look into more, and keep in mind, the body is wearing clothes,so I added a little effects such as clothe and such.
Start with your overall proportions. Leg and arm length, torso ratio, head size etc.
Do you have reference images? If you find a picture or diagram of a person in a T pose and put the image behind your model as you work, this will help a lot.
@FlaxSycle
Thats what I did at the beginning, but trailed off of it.
since its supposed to be human like its supposed to be proportional, http://www.daz3d.com/michael-5
now even if you are going for cartoon, it should still appear that it is just a human with exaggerated features, if you look, the arms look kinda weird, the nose looks to realistic for the style, the eyes look…kinda out of place, the feet look don’t look like its wearing socks, mostly because you textured it like that. Ugh…I sound so mean here, I’m sorry but I would like for you to improve.
Tips:
I recommend getting 3ds Max.
Don’t start with character modeling, perfect easier stuff like making props first.
Check these out

Blender

Don’t be sorry, I just was glad you explained whats wrong or else i’d go insane haha.
Though I am not the best at 3D modeling,I am not good what-so-ever with texture, and since its just me,I made the texture, which is why its not so good.
I see what you mean about the arms, they look…bigger then normal.
Well the game I am trying to make is based around old medieval times,so it shouldn’t look to perfect like modern day clothes/hair,since they didn’t have what we had back then.
I am not aiming for cartoon, but I guess thats how it looks.
And I much rather get Maya over 3DS Max,but I don’t have the money (For you see,I am only 14 :/)
I can do semi-good props, depending on what it is. I am just not good at modeling things based around real life, like humans,or advanced buildings, animals, etc…
I do so want to get better at it,and thank you for taking the time to help me. So far I went through 4 models of humans, and trust me,this is better then the last few,the only one concern I am having is the polygon count…right now the model is 6K.
Thanks for helping me again.
3ds Max is generally preferred for game development while Maya more for film and animation. Since you are 14, you are in school, so get a FREE student license for 3 years. Trust me, although I am more of a programmer now, it took me around 3-4 months of daily training to even concept, how to make a human.
Google He Man Classics action figure. This is the guy you want to make if you want a muscular guy. He has the right muscles (bit overly done) but then they are clear.
Use a front and side shot of He Man. And then use plane or box modeling to model.
And lookup the Joan Of Arc 3d tutorial. It’s one of the best out there.
You started the wrong way, you should always start with a modelsheet.
If you know the basics of 3d modeling then it should be easy.
get a modelsheet, something like this http://ceciliamation.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/player_male_base_large.jpg
Then simply draw over it in transparant. And in the 3d perspective view you can adjust everything.
And remember, edgeloops, the lines have to look organic not like squares.
Like in the left model here
Its definitely a good start. Plus, at least you are giving it a go. Not many people would try it and put their work out for others to judge; so kudos for that.
Keep going at it and you will get better with time.
Just a quick point; i noticed another forum member recommended that you get a student version of 3DS Max. Just make sure that you don’t sell anything that you model with it. The student version is a non-commercial licence.
If you want to make any money from modelling, i would advise learning Blender. I use Blender and gotten use to all of its little quirks and keyboard shortcuts.
Not in school,only home-schooled,so I don’t think I would count.
I started trying when I was 13,but I had (still have) a big problem, which is my computer,it can’t run Unity terrain,or unity games without MAJOR lag,and I can’t use 4.0 so that prevents me from learning multiply things.
I thought Maya was more used then 3Ds Max,thanks for telling me though.
Also, unfamillia, at first I was happy with the human, but I just wanted to make sure others did,or maybe someone could point out something I didn’t spot, which they did,and I am happy to know that.
Yeah, well I didn’t plan on selling any models/games right now,I wanna make a game to get…‘known’ since I want to design games for a LONG time, not just a hobby.
I currently model in blender, which is what the human is modeled in,I don’t know ALL the keyboard shortcuts, mainly the editing ones.
Ok…
The top image has a few red boxes that show approximate proportions based on the size of the head and arms. The lower one shows the lower body stretched to more realistic proportions.
To make it clear for you, ill point out your mistakes.
- The arms look as long as the body. Do your hands touch your feet?
- The arms are as wide as the torso. Are your arms wider than your chest?
- The legs are shorter than your arms. In actual fact, arms are about the same length as legs.
- The head looks as wide as the shoulders. Not sure about your head, but mine aint that wide

- The feet kind of look like giant hoofs.
Yeah I see it,thanks for pointing it out.
Alright so I am taking all of your advice (Well almost it all) and this is a non textured, block form of the new person I am making, currently he is just a head.

I edited his nose,mouth,eyebrows,and eyes,adding ears soon.
