Music trackers and iOS

Are the .it or .mod files fully supported on iOS? As I understand it the audio files convert to mp3, so would one benefit in using a tracker at all? It’s the file size I’m after keeping as small as possible.

I find this particular area a bit unclear in the documentation (might be the tired eyes). Having a look at Unity - Audio Files (Supported Formats), it says .mod, .it, .s3m and .xm isn’t supported in a very peculiar way.

Reading about it on forums (the little there is to find) makes it even more fuzzy, where some say that this is supported and some say that it doesn’t work due to the CPU-intensity. Even though when there is apps that reads modular files as music already out there, and heck the Amiga did it.

I want to be sure of this before we start up so our sound engineer can make an early choice. All help appreciated!

Received an answer from Unity Support about this and apparently it’s all good to go.

I have verified that mod files do work
on iOS. I can also confirm that mod
files exist as is on device (i.e they
are not converted to mp3). You can see
for yourself using Hex Fiend on
sharedassets0.assets and the .mod file
you will see an exact duplicate of the
mod file.
