My first code HELP!

Hi Im new to coding my player keeps jumping if I push space…

I can’t tell if this post is serious or not, I’m sorry.

You might like to try small:

Whether you wrote the code or copied it from an example, there are places in there that specifically mention jumping.

hahaha… yes its fucking serious, I dont know what im doing, I followed a video to help me setup my code… but he didn’t show how to stop him jumping when not on ground… look at my code… Here : using System.Collections;using System.Collections.Generic;using UnityEngine; - Pastebin.com

Title does say “My first code” I guess this is a joke for someone that knows how to code… Real supportive community in unity…

now he doesn’t jump at all…I set tags to ground. New code with grounded jump.

FIxed it myself… Didn’t have a capital in onCollisionEnter2D…

Hey there, I did offer some links to help you out

Sorry there was some confusion as your first post said the player keeps jumping, then later you wrote that he won’t jump.

Anyways, glad you got it resolved.

For starters, two or three hours is nothing. Response times on the forums are entirely dependent on the work and free time schedule of the people who take part on them. We’re volunteers. We’re not being paid. If you want an instant response you can always hire someone.

Second, please use code tags and post the code on the forums. Unity’s forum software correctly highlights the code making it easier for us to find the problem you missed. Using PasteBin is a bit like using Notepad. No one enjoys reading code posted on there and you may even receive fewer responses by using it.

@Ryiah Thanks for be so helpful where it counts… I don’t care what you have to say, your not been helpful… 2-3hours is plenty of time to get a response. Also if I just posted the code without the code tag, because we all don’t spend our life trolling forums to post our two cents, you would of had a cry about that instead… Seems like a lot of Unity users are too self-righteous to help new people. As I said before “Real supportive community in unity” worst feedback compared to any other game engine forum I have used… Sorry for wasting your precious time on such a noob question… Go shove your unnecessary comment where the sun don’t shine.

“We’re volunteers. We’re not being paid. If you want an instant response you can always hire someone” what a joke all you care about is lining your pockets with money. Go back to your cave money hungry troll… You should do it because you enjoy making games and helping new people and to help build a better community, not for profit…

That’s just not right…

@methos5k what part? the part where I said “You should do it because you enjoy making games and helping new people and to help build a better community, not for profit” yeah didn’t think any of you would agree to that. seems to be the trend in Unity… People only want to help others on here if they can line their pockets with cash…

I meant your attitude and ranting, sorry. I can admit that I may have led on a bad note with asking if it was a joke, but that wasn’t really meant as rude. Perhaps you didn’t know that ; from your responses, perhaps you wouldn’t even care.
My point is, after that there were responses here to help you, but you take everything and bend it to sound bad and add a lot of negativity.

Anyhow, you did say you solved the issue yourself, so it’s done.

yes I appreciated you replying with something that might help after your first unnecessary comment. but sending me off to look at videos and topics I’ve already seen didn’t help. if you looked at my code and you know how to code, you would’ve seen my mistake and corrected it, That would’ve been a much better way to deal with it… As for Ryiah she is just a troll poking her head in the topic to have a say, like she is an admin or something, control freak… Trolls now days they are everywhere…

Yep, for some reason when I first read your post, I thought what you had written meant this:
“I press space, and my character jumps but I don’t know why.” – Also the reason I asked if it was joking around.

Now, that was just how I interpreted it at the time. Now that I know you were talking about jumping while already jumping, that’s another story (one that’s mentioned a fair bit, too).

Had it been written “I’m allowed to jump while already jumping, but I don’t want to be” or something like that, I would have immediately known what you meant. I misunderstood the post, at first.

Anyways, beyond that, you have been a bit dramatic. On here, there are many users; all sorts of different people, and different experience levels, languages, etc… But the ones that have good conversations, sharing experiences, learning (and so on), are those that do it politely and kindly to one another. That’s my experience, in the time I’ve been here.
I hope you’ll consider that…

Take care.
