My first game ever!

NOTICE Go to my bottom comment for the latest and final version! NOTICE

Hey guys!

I am 17 years old and I have been learning to use Unity on and off for the past year.
This is my first game ever which i hope you guys will give some feedback on.
The game itself is not very innovative but was rather mostly used for practice.
However, I believe that if i continue to update the game it will eventually become very good, especially with your feedback! =)

* UPDATED GAME VERSION IN A COMMENT BELOW *

Gameplay info

  • The green balls lets you double jump if you press space while colliding with it.
  • The singleplayer goal is to complete a map to unlock the next with the fastest possible times.
  • The multiplayer goal is to achieve the fastest time in a best of three.

Perhaps a webgl? I normally don’t like downloading stuff from sites, especially ones know for virus’s and stuff.

From the screenshots the game looks pretty good, however the terrain in the backround looks alot more realistic than the pool balls, maybe add some options for something a bit more detailed (like a soccerball or something).

Overall it looks pretty good for a first attempt!

Hey RavenOfCode, I agree that the playermodels could use some new materials, I will be looking for some new!

  • Also, here is a Webplayer link so you can play without downloading anything!

Nice start mate. The menus are quite cool. It’s hard as balls though! I tried for a couple of minutes and failed to finish the first level, but perhaps I was rushing it.

Maybe a nice idea would be to do a mini-gold style game like this, where you have to jump around but avoid obstacles and get in the hole in say the least amount of jumps.

Thanks for you feedback!
I was just like you thinking of some sort of mini-gold style game so the player did not only have to just complete the map but also afterwards have a reason to redo the maps to achieve a better medal. The jump counting sounds like a good idea!

  • I have actually already implemented obstacles to avoid, but i have saved them for the higher difficulties though.

I can´t decide whether the easy maps should be easier or not. You said it was very hard and of course it shouldn´t be that at easy!

  • However, I found out that people who play games likes Counter-strike tend to be very good at my game. The physcis are somehow kind of the same.

So, did the difficulty of the game make you wanna give up or continue?

haha I played loads of CS back in the day! Perhaps not well enough.

I think the first few levels need to be fairly easy if you want to appeal to a wide audience. Even if good players find it too easy, they’ll simply breeze through it in a minute or two and be onto the harder stuff.

Updates

  • The singleplayer gameplay now contains 6 maps, 3 easy and 3 medium.
  • The different maps now have a new terrain with different weather effects.
  • Highscores are saved and shown in the lobby menu
  • Highscores will now award a gold, silver or bronze medal depending on the completion time on each level
  • Currrent time is now shown during the maps
  • Fixed random menu movement speed between panels.
  • Added lobby music
  • And lots of bugs are fixed

Then and now 1.1 → 1.2
Then

Now

However!
This update focused entirely on the singleplayer part, so it is a couple of lightyears in front of the multiplayer part now. Multiplayer is up next after i have gotten your feedback on the singleplayer part!

Feedback
Everything you have to say is very usefull, please feel free to tell me what you would like to see implemented, changed or removed.
Please feel free to add your own thoughts aswell as answering the following questions in a comment:

2. Is it too hard to control the ball?
3. Any ideas of some background music I can use in the maps?
4. Should there be more sound effects?
5. Did you enjoy the game?
6. Does it seem like something which one day can end up being a fun and enjoyable game?

Thank you very much. Looking forward to your review.

Hey guys, the game is finally at the final version and I would love to hear your feedback!
I have added the following since the last time:

Major

  • Highscores rewarding bronze/silver/gold medals from the completion of each level according to your finish time
  • Background music on each level
  • 3 Hard levels
  • Different feel of the player movement

Minor

  • Can now restart the map by simply pressing “R” when in the pause screen
  • Fixed end locations
  • Bunch and bunch of glitches fixed

So…
Can you guys complete all 9 levels with a gold medal?
The controls might seem hard at start, but once you get a hold on it most of the people who have already tried it says it becomes a lot more fun and addictive.
The first levels are also very easy so you can get the feeling of the controls.

The download
I have put the game in a Winrar file for fast download and max resolution instead of the poor browser quality.
If this is stopping you from trying, please let me know and I will upload it to a website

Looks good! After gameplay, polish it up with post effects, nice shaders for the lava and water, and shadows with other effects.
