My First Game

Hello there! Today, I am showing off my first game. It is still in progress, which is why it is posted here.
Please do not get mad because it is unoriginal or not very high quality because this is my first work. When I finish this game, I will create something more original.
I have made all of the models myself (with exception of the trees) and they are not high quality yet because they are placeholders. The game I have been working on is called (again, it is not original) Slender: Nightmare. As of now, it is only a menu and one level with the environment and character. Slender, Masky, and the Rake (hopefully) will be added later, along with sounds and music. I intend to add different modes, too such as the original (8 pages, Slender follows you), a mode where you play as Slender, and a secret mode  .
Here are some pics:

Again, these are placeholder models for testing only. They do not represent the final product. There is a strange bug on the hand that creates black spots. If anyone knows what is happening, please tell me. Please tell me what you guys think of my project so far :stuck_out_tongue: . Oh, and please do not call me a copycat, or anything of that sort. This is just a test to see the quality of a game I can create.

Okay, another slender game. Phew. You might get some heat because it has become a bit generic, but as long as its a learning experience, its worth it in the end.

Just from reading your post it seems like your being a bit ambitious. It seems like you are just starting at Unity (bravo for that) so stick to the basics. Stay with one gamemode for now and keep to good 'ol slender. It is a slender game after all, and how would you implement the rake anyway? A non-animated placeholder-ish model? No, that won’t work. Keep it simple and don’t aim too high in this case.

From looking at your pictures, your flashlight seems to be a point light (emanating from a source) instead of a spotlight, which you should change it too. Unless, that is, you are going for something like a lantern, which would be a welcome change. Light cookies would be nice, along with tinting the light itself. You should do the same for the streetlight. If you need help with that, PM me, I’m happy to assist.

And another thing, what the heck am I looking at in your second picture? Some trees and what…? Flashlight thing? At least that’s what I though when I first saw the image. And the fact that I can see it is no good, the forest would be darker at night.

So level design. It doesn’t matter now, stick to core mechanics. Block out your level first. Get the AI working. Footsteps. Camera weaving. Anything but putting a random streetlight with no power source next to generic Unity water. That’s a no no.

Good luck on your project. Remember to use Unity answers, its always a great resource. Google is your friend.

Thanks for the reply. I have a few ideas about the Rake, and it won’t be a placeholder model when (if) I add it in. It will be animated too. My flashlight is a spotlight, but lights up the trees around me for some reason. These models are only placeholders because I don’t want to spend too much time on them. (This is only about 4-5 hours of work.) I have camera bobbing. I finished that last night. The water and streetlight were my friend’s idea. He insisted I add them in. I personally don’t like the look of it. The reason I added light to the streetlight was so I could see in the editor without changing the ambient light. Oh, and the secret mode would be VERY easy to do, as long as I have the original mode.
Finally, in the second picture, the flashlight is on.

Don’t be so quick to judge people please.

Thanks for the advice concerning the flashlight. I will try to fix it. And I do have the level mapped out. I went through three plans on paper until I found a nice layout.
