My First Unity Build on iPad Remote and Perspective

I’m sure the feeling of elation I just felt is the same as everyone else. As most of us have compiled countless builds to Win / Mac targets can attest the first one actually running on an iPhone or iPad seems like a personal milestone.

After all my purchases (Unity 4, iPhone Pro, Mac, iPad) I like everyone else has some expectation that things would be a tad clearer on next steps. Worth noting is the stress of the money I just spent  as an Indie. :sunglasses: With 300 pages and 40 posts per page the IOS section is a daunting task for anyone to search through.

I didn’t want to ask until I spent a day searching myself. I finally found the IOS setup documentation, buried in posts which helped get me started.

I’d love to see the sticky updated possibly with a view for noobs to iPad / iPhone development as there’s tons of content and in fact so much but no real direction of the high level view Objectives of the Major Milestones one must do with Unity and Xcode etc.

I really just did the following:

After getting hardware (Mac iPad)
Installed Unity 4 IOS Pro
Finally found the iPhone Account Setup html document buried in the documentation on my Mac. :-x
Signed up for Apple IOS developer program
Installed Xcode from developer.apple.com
Device Identifier - Launched Xcode which found my plugged in iPad (responded to all the “makes sense to me” acknowledgements to register my iPad with Xcode)
Certificates on developer.apple.com - created 2 certs in a "makes sense to me fashion yet again… Lots of praying here. no real big picture explained. I even downloaded a Provisional File, but don’t know what it does yet. something about a team. Well there’s just me so far
Unity Remote - Downloaded the Unity Remote3 xcode file and launched it. xCode opened. Again configured it on the fly by what seemed relevant.
Opened Unity - Launched the demo Angry Bots, hit Play and it ran in Unity. Changed the target to IOS hit build and run again and Xcode popped up in front of Unity and started building, then my iPad came to life and it just worked.

I’m so happy at the moment. This gives me hope. My next steps are plugging away and dissecting the Angry Bots code to actually learn some of the mobile specific functions for Unity as well as many of the new tutorials and anything else I can get my hands on.

well done
