My First Unity Game BE NICE!

Rawrrrrrr!! Hi there, this is my first game in Unity and honestly my first 3d Game. Made a few 2d ones on TGF2 and so on nothing to fancy though.

Bear in mind this is the first time i have ever scripted anything (excluding play/stop buttons in Flash MX when i was like 8 lol) and most of it is butchered from the 2d Game play tut and other places within the engine as i have no clue what i am doing lolz, my scripts would probably put most of you guys in stitches laughing. But avas we all gotta start somewhere lol.

I am a graphic artists, 3d modeler, and map maker though so that helps, the layout of the engine is pretty similar to any generic 3d modeling program, kindov works the same too so that’s nice. I didn’t put anything i made in here because, well i couldn’t be bothered to make anything and it was more of a practice with scripting and level changes.

Any who iv been using Unity about 3 days now, this game took 2 days to make, though i am sure you guys could throw it together in an afternoon.

Well Enjoy…

Sorry about the .exe version, its supposed to be a web game but i have no place to upload it so you will have to just play the .exe version lol. Unless someone wants to be real nice and recompile and upload it as a webpage for me lol.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MM7AHT7D <----- I think thats the web version lol not sure if it will work though.

10 levels to play on!!!
Controls WASD to move Space to jump (Hold for more height) Mouse to look around.
Just get to the other floating white platform by using the floating glyphs and grab the sphere to advance (Yes i know the glyphs are just particle effect mats lol) pretty simple really, gets hard though.

Special thanks to the guys who made the 2D gameplay Tut helped a lot with basic scripting, and also the website that i got the tunes from, feel kindov bad because i can’t remember were i got them now lol but oh well thanks anyway!

PS:Unity is a pretty bad ass engine, easy, fast, flexible and pretty, pretty :sunglasses:

Comments crits ect welcome, but im no likely to add/change anything unless for some reason people actually like it, in that case will probably start again from scratch lol.

Hey, man.
I’ve played your game till lvl 4, so I haven’t played through, but I guess that the game won’t change that much…?
What I like is the simplicity, and I actually like this glowing of you clouds. The jumping is absolutely ok, at first it feels kinda weird, but after a while it works nice.

But in my eyes you could change simple stuff to make the experience better without changing any code at all. For instance: you could use a particle system to give the clouds a more volumetric look, change the footstep sound to something fluffy instead this stone-walking sound or just change your cloud texture. Right now it looks like you would fall through the center of the cloud. Just change the texture and it feels more natural.
Anyways, good luck with all your further projects.

Oh, and it reminds me of a certain Led Zeppelin song

haha yeah was gonna name it after said certain song but thought that would be a bit much lol.
i know what you mean about the clouds after lvl 7 it gets much darker and in my opinion much prettier, the white contrasts great with the moon and stary night skyboxs.

For the particles on the clouds, how would i do that, just set up a particle generator on each platform? Because i didn’t use prefabs so that will take forever!! lol same with changing the sound though your right those are some seriously thin invisible concrete clouds lol

Thanks for taking a look mate appreciate it, does get abit better after lvl 7 though, not to much game play wise but looks and difficulty. Oh and yeah wants you get used to the jump height and sliding you can move with some relative ease, but that’ down to Unity’s fps scripts.

jeez its SO bright, i had to quit within 15 seconds… I was looking around with my mouse not even knowing the game had already begun, you need some sort of main menu and object and such. Still, a good start.

I have to agree it is very bright on my main monitor but not as bad on my laptop, other then that i like it.

Well thanks for giving it a try gents, i do agree the first few levels can be a bit tricky finding the bright white glyphs in the bright sun can be a challenge but as the levels progress it gets darker and darker. Its the yee old balanced progressive difficulty rootean, as the game progresses the physical complexity in game play increase while the environment and observational difficulties decrease. Its a kin to real life experience and makes for a more enjoyable and re-playable game. You’ll notice similar techniques used in most popular games though usually accomplished a tad more sutterly.

Oh and Artimese i advice you check your monitors brightness settings, even in a full white environment the screen should never hurt your eyes, its bad for your health mate. Also any art work 2d, 3d ect will be adversely effected take it from me, theres nothing worse than making a bunch of textures or hud components, only to realize on everyone else computer there far to dark, been there done that, IS NOT FUN lol.
Use a 9 to 16 point grey scale from dead black to pure white, adjust your screen until you get an even and gradual shift from white to black with all shades between clearly visible, you will thank me later lol.

Use this if you cant find one, or your monitor doesn’t include one, I would advice everyone to do this now and again, especaily if your a graphic artist!

Thanks Glitchy really appreciate you taking the time to try it on another comp, get pased the first 5lvls and i promise you that you will much prefer it, personally i think lvls 8 9 and 10 look the best.

Also if your a graphics artist worried about color i recommend huey or hue PRO if you use duel monitors. Its a portable color calibrator that also adjust for room brightness.

Good game, keep up the good work!

Dispite the original idea of this game (which is amazing yet simple!) You should think about adding a lot of other stuff, for example power-ups, time limits, secret places, etc etc. If you know what your doing, then your on your way!

Alright, played till lvl 9, there fell down down twice and quit.
You’re definitely right, the lvl design really improves after lvl 7 and it actually gets kinda fun.

As you said, you will probably not change the game as it is.
But for any further game project you do with unity let me give you an advice. Use Prefabs. Seriously, try to prefab as many objects as you can, specially if you use one object in several lvl, or the object in one lvl several times. It’s such an powerful way to develop your game. If you are not satisfied with an object you can easily change the prefab and don’t have to worry about replacing objects, etc…

In my eyes the ideal scene is a scene with almost or just prefabs.

Thanks Glitchy i will have to have a look at that hue pro, sounds interesting, does it work with single set ups also?

Artimese if you think its worth doing ill add some other stuff in, though can’t stress enough how little i know about scripting lolz so might take a while. I like the concept myself kindov reminds me of those real retro games, pong, ms pacman ect, were there really wasn’t more than one objective, games have lost this playability over the years, hence everything looks the same, plays the same, only difference is the models and some values lol, for example Devil may Cry, Dontays Inferno, Ninja Gaiden ect are all the exact same game with different models and values lol (does make life easier though)

Inkognito HAHAHAHA i know how you feel, bug testing those later levels made me so mad! lol. I tried to get prefabs to work using the 2d Gameplay tut as a guide but it never worked, probably because it was written for 2.6 and not 3, but i think i figured it out now, still getting used to the programs little quirks, same with the moving platform couldn’t get that to work either, some of the clouds i wanted to start to disappear and drop if you stayed on them to long and other stuff. Man oh man i wish i had used prefabs when it came to adding the collision sound effects lmao that was not fun lol.

Thanks again you guys!!
