Hi,
I was watching with interest Brian Upton’s 30 Things I Hate About Your Pitch. Is there a place to practice my game pitch? A forum?
Thanks,
It all depends. Who are you pitching it to? What’s the goal of the pitch?
Local indie game developer meet ups are always good for that. But that depends on if you have a good indie scene in your area. If not, practice on anyone who plays games.
This!
When it comes to pitching the specifics of your audience really matter. “Gamers” aren’t all the same, so you’re unlikely to get useful feedback from, say, pitching a strategy title designed for PC to a group who mostly plays Call of Duty on their Xbox.
Likewise, a business pitch is different to a sales pitch, and so on and so forth.
And don’t stop there. Find out who specifically you are pitching to. Get all Sherlock Holmes on them. Know what kind of food they like, where they hang out on Saturday, what makes them tick.Don’t fool yourself thinking the genius of your work will carry it alone. Nor will smooth talking. Got to know your enemy so that you can overwhelm them on all fronts.
