My letter to Unity UX team

Dear Unity, we go back many years and I cease this chance to throw some suggestions to the Unity UX teams about some of may aspirations regarding the direction Unity is headed towards:

1- Make Component and Asset Icons in the Menu bar.

2- Extend the Multi-Select features to some components not supported yet, like EventTrigger.

3- IMPORTANT : Provide better and more exhaustive snapping and layout tools in the Editor, currently it’s the nightmare.

4- More streamlined and compact approach to handling many aspects and tools of Unity, see e.g. Embedding Motion Clips in the Controller Asset. - Unity Engine - Unity Discussions
And maybe integrating and merging some others like Animation tools, it’s so fragmented.

5- More shortcuts!

6- Removing redundant things, like Animation Parameter window.

7- Better editor performance, especially selection of many objects.

Thank you Unity, forever and ever. Happy Valentine.

There is the feedback section…

There are sooo many UX issues… and we only have 10 votes… we are somehow forced to use the forum to give visibility to these issues…
I really wonder how is a day of work on Unity’s UX, team because it’s 2016 and again, soooo many basic stuff that should’ve been addressed years ago…

P.S.: https://feedback.unity3d.com/suggestions/feedback-10-votes-per-month-plus-why-current-voting-system-is-not-ideal

Agree, I too wonder that.

@xCyborg For the shortcuts I recommend you Unicut: Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making

I think this stuff tends to be lower priority because everyone has different workflows, and the Unity editor is highly configurable and extendable. Most of the UX items listed can be easily done. I have so many buttons, shortcuts and behaviours I have added to the Editor, I forget which ones are mine and which ones are part of Unity.

Easily done if you are a programmer and have time on your hands. But even in that case, there are still limits, even on very basic stuff, for instance, would you be able to change the color of the Inspector Lock icon and surroundings to improve its visual feedback? And locking the inspector I believe is quite common on most workflows, right?

To a degree sure. I have key commands for my inspector locking, adding visual feedback is trivial, probably with more time I could do something more fancy (like probably tinting the whole panel to be very clear) but a couple of minutes of work:

There are some limitations to the degree of which you can customize, or more accurately, there is a point where the amount of effort surpasses the value returned.

For a couple of minutes that’s awesome. How much you want for the script?
You can balance the returned value selling it on the asset store, which I guess could be what they’re looking for…
