My Name has Been Hijacked and Being Used to Sell Stolen Assets

Hello Forum!
Not the best first post, but I am having problems with someone stealing my name and selling stolen assets.
Which is REALLY harmful to my freelancing business. At first I thought it was just a name coincidence, but he is linking to my portfolio as well.

I have been contacted by the people who actually own the assets. It is actually quite scary, luckily they have figured out the guy is an impostor and not actually me. Although, I am afraid that many people think that this guy is actually me.

This is the impostor ^.

In his description, he is saying that I worked at Game Loft and that I use 3D Max. Both of those statements are completely untrue.

My work history does not match up with his description.

I have never used 3D Max in my life. I am a Blender addict.
For proof, you can look here. You can see that I actively post on blenderartists.org

I have contacted Unity and am now waiting for a response, in the mean time, please flag his account.
Thank you for understanding,
-Jared

Someone is hacking Unity accounts I think. I received an IM from a Unity person telling me someone was banned. Supposedly, I had reported this person for three IM’s he sent me through Unity’s forums. I never reported anyone and never received the IM’s he sent me. The Unity guy showed me a copy of the report and it had my name on it and was through my IP. Very weird. I changed my account password and cleaned my computer and no further issues. But still have no idea what happened. I never heard again from Unity about the situation although I am still very curious. Not sure why someone would hack my account to ban someone or make up some fake report. Do I have an enemy on the Unity forums? Hope not.

Be careful. I have never had a problem with a forum account and I have participated in quite a few so feeling a bit cautious these days.

I will admit that I have this fear that my own reputation will be damaged and that the Unity folks will think I am some crazy lady who was drunk one night and went on a reporting spree. :hushed:

Good to hear about this stuff. I mean, obviously it’s not good news, but it’s a warning.

OK notified Unity.

[/quote] only one night?

I have not heard anything from Unity yet :/, how long does it take them to reply usually?

Oh wow, that is probably one of the weirdest hack stories I’ve heard O.o, Maybe the hacker hated that person and wanted him off of the market.

Also lol! Eh, if they think we are all crazy ladies, we can have a "nity “Crazy lady” support group xD

Ah yes, It makes me wonder how many other impostors are on the unity forum O.o

Thank you so much!

Yeah, my drunken evenings are in my past. Now days, a couple of glasses of wine and I am sleeping.

The weird thing is that earlier than day, I had a notification that I had a new follower. Then I hear from Unity later, and the guy they banned was the follower. The follower/banned fellow had no posts at all. So I don’t think he was someone anyone hated since he never posted.

A week before, I had received another PM from a guy wanting me to join a Chinese Unity site to help teach some of the people there. I was curious and stupid so I clicked on the link. It led me to a site all in Chinese with a few pictures of Unity assets and Unity logos, and pictures from the Unity site. Since I can’t read Chinese, I closed the page. Later, after the banning and contact from Unity, my husband looked at the site and it is owned by a place that puts stuff on your computer. I am not sure if the two are related but I did send a report about the Chinese site IM to Unity, just in case.

@ferrettank How did you contact us, so I don’t end up double passing this on.

@Teila That is so weird! Maybe it was a secret CIA operative :p, yeah, those fake sites can be tricky, especially the fake credit card sites, ugh.

@ I contacted unity through this forum Unity about 6 days ago.

I also flagged his account as well.

So the site http://jaredsamuelson.com/ is your site ?

Yes, that is my site ^, the problem is that he is linking to it, pretending to be me

An update: It has been 9 days since I’ve talked to the unity store, I still have not heard a response, are there any admins on here that can follow up on the problem? Thanks.

Another 10 days on and still no response from the people running the Unity Store.

The account in question has now changed it’s name again and I’m fairly certain is impersonating another guy.

He’s also added a new asset which again has been lifted directly from a users submission from our site. https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/28644 http://gamebanana.com/models/3553

This issue was first raised on our site almost a month ago and it seems to have garnered no response via flags of the assets/account and reports sent via the “get in touch” form.

Pretty cheeky.

Yep, Unity’s legal team still hasn’t respond :expressionless: Can anyone here tell unity to respond to this? It is absolutely ridiculous at this point. No wonder the scammer chose this website to scam on.

I would PM one of the Unity people, esp. @ (who did respond in this thread and thus has some familiarity with the issue).

We are investigating and will follow up shortly, our apologies for the delay
