So now all my packages I installed through the “Install package from git URL…” window have disappeared from package manager.
After reinstalling they appear again but they only stay until the first close and reopen the editor.

Same issue here; makes it near impossible to manage packages installed from Git.
did either of you report it as a bug to unity?
I did not, as I am too busy with reporting other bugs I find in alpha
I was a firm supporter of bug reporting for years (I even won a monitor on one of those beta bug reporting runs they had…). But sadly I had enough. Vast majority of my reported bugs went “won’t fix” or “can’t reproduce”, even when I attached meticulous steps and video and whatnot. So I just stopped reporting bugs. I won’t waste my time on bullshit. If Unity is interested, they will submit the bug reports themselves. Example here: Unity registry contains installed package from my own Git repo - #2 by Tautvydas-Zilys
dont get me wrong, ive had that exact experience… i have had 1 bug fixed, but i also dont get the mails from the logging system so if ive logged a bug i gotta hit refreshes on the pages to check whats going on cos of course if you dont respond quickly they get bored and close it too, even if your report says “I do not get emails from this system, please can you copy this email address so i can get them” nothing…interestingly if i log anything that a direct unity bug, i get those emails from the same server…
so, the one they did fix, was a fight, and more over, once “fixed” it wasnt fixed in the version i reported it in, only the latest alpha… i didnt really wanna move to the alpha for my core project… and it wasnt back ported so id argue not fixed then…
however theres at least 2 of you and likely more if none of you report it, it wont get fixed, someone has to
2023.3.0a18 - this behavior is back. Now after every single project start I lose all my UPMs installed from GitHub.
<project>/Library/PackageCache/<package>
folder.
Ive seen a good few things install as packages now. So go into the package area and out of reach for want of a better word. Which makes it harder to use resources and make tweaks
This is actually one of worst productivity bugs I’ve seen in Unity. It’s not even just git packages (they’re just the easiest repo) but also local packages and you can even repo it on certain official Unity packages simply doing updates.
The worst thing is, right click reimport no longer fixes it in 2023.3 (which used to fix it in 2022.3). Even deleting script assemblies, package cache etc from Library doesn’t even fix it for some reason.
The only way I’ve able to fix this is a full Library delete and reimport, which is great when someone pushes a commit and the entire company would have to sit there for an hour+ waiting for project to reimport.
Well, I wouldn’t use 2023.3 alpha in production when I would have to rely on others. But they are fumbling with this for a while now. Package Manager is in very bad shape at the moment.
Yes we’re not using in this in production yet but this has been an issue in 2022 for a year^, the difference is just it’s much more frequent and the way to fix it has been broken in 2023.3
^just check entities forums and how many issues people have with packages not appearing anymore after every update
I’m curious when will Unity cancel, oh sorry, “temporarily remove and reintroduce it at a later date” the package manager, just like they did with the project window context menu, we’re at b2 and it’s still a mess.
