Yesterday I noticed that my unity project was displaying a hold on screen constantly and the screens would last for a half an hour. I looked up a solution and I people said that deleting the library folder helped them. I deleted the library folder and reopened the project to start the reimport process. It has now been going on for almost 24 hours and I want to know if I should let it continue (I saw a forum post where a guy said his was still going after a week) or restart my computer, update unity and restart the reimport.
A couple of relevant facts:
My assets folder is approximately 50Gb
I’m not on the latest version of Unity. My computers running the reimport and won’t let me open Unity Hub to see what version it is but I believe I’m one behind the latest release.
My computer doe not appear to be taxing itself very much. The fan is running a little but overall it doesn’t feel like it’s doing anything.
I wanted to share something that might help any future travelers, since this is the first result.
You can compare the messaging on your Import window (ie: “Importing (iteration 4)…” to the Processes tab of the task manager. Expand Unity Editor and it’ll show you the current state of the import. In my case, as we speak it shows iteration 6 whereas the Import window is still stuck on displaying iteration 4. So presumably, it’s still progressing.
You can also validate this by looking into your Library folder - the Artifacts subfolder seems particularly busy - and watch as new files or folders are created in realtime.
