This is coming along ok so far. I have about 2 months put into it when i’m not working my full time job.
I created a quick trailer/sneak peek and of course left out a few things so not to spoil it. Im not even close to being done so this is just a little of what I have so far.
But please watch my trailer and let me know if it looks like something I could sell for a few bucks. Maybe have a free demo to? I’m planning on it being a full game with a bunch of puzzles along with the action. Maybe a game that could take hours to beat.
The trailer is here:
I named it Virtual Insanity for now, but may change the name when its done.
Keep in mind I only have about 6 months of experience with Unity and game design in general.
I am using Blox2 for 98% of the scripting.
Mixamo Fuse for character creation and animation.
Salsa with Random eyes for the facial animation.
Free, purchased, and my own created assets.
Freesound.org and Incompetech for music audio and sounds. (along with my own I created)
I think this is a wonderfully executed game, the animations really sell the story along with the dialogue, sounds and fright scares. The only thing I would critique is perhaps the texturing and lighting, and that’s the only thing separating it from a AAA game. But other than that, you’ve obviously put in a great deal of work, 9/10.
Looks nice GG.
There is a level of polish that is needed - Im sure your aware of - no need to comment on obvious things.
The one thing that stood out when watching the video was the specular level of the padded rooms. The specular made it look like it was a vinal type material, but I think (no first hand knowledge) those padded rooms are made of a less shiny cloth material.
Overall looks like youve busted your butt on this. Nice work.
Care to share your experience using blox2?
Ive been using Playmaker for about half a year and have been slowly coming to grips with it. Is blox2 the same asset as blox on the asset store?
Nice work in the amount of time you have given to the project.
I never been in a padded room so I guess I wasn’t really sure how shiny the cloth is… LOL
But that would take a second to fix.
And yeah, I have busted my butt, and I’ll be busting my butt for a while, What you seen is pretty much an intro. I have so much more to do. Going to take months maybe a year if I really want an awesome game.
And about Blox2. All I have to say is that its amazing. I would never be where I am today without it. If you have basic C# or Unityscript experience then Blox2 is the way to go. Its soooo easy! You should find and watch some videos on youtube. I tried PlayMaker but I felt like I had to spent a bunch of time learning how to use it, and if I didn’t follow a tutorial I wasn’t able to do it myself without re-watching tutorials.
Blox2 on the otherhand, maybe 5 min. of watching a tutorial, and you can start using it.
Hey, thanks for the comment. However, could you tell me whats wrong with the lighting and textures? I would like to know so I know what to change. Are you speaking of all the textures? Certain areas? A lot of the game is lit with a flashlight… I’m also using realtime lighting, not baked, and with VR you can’t have the Frame Rate go below 75. So I can’t get to extreme with lighting. I’m still learning how to use Light probes and Reflection Probes.
I wouldn’t say it was on all textures, some are done well, I lke the dark scenes and how the blood falls on the floor. The padded cell scene and the rehab scene need tweaking - I think the wall and tables textures are not great and there is too much ambient light, so the room just looks flood lit - in the rehab scene. It’s probably a bit much if you’re getting models of the net to expect great texturing etc. The gameplay alone I can see was quite one helluva an effort and well done.
Please bear in mind I’m 3 weeks in so take this with a pinch of salt you’re way more advanced than me.
Ok i get what your saying. The rehab scene is kinda meant to look all lit up, i’m not going to say why cause then i’ll just give away the story. But I did it for a reason. Not sure what tables your talking about either. I bought most of my stuff off the asset store. I spent money on it so i hope it looks good! LOL
