I’ve been working on a few names for my “company” - if you want to call it one (I like to)
I’ve been mulling this one over for quite some time. I have a rather unique name, and want to use that as a company name, and a few weeks ago it struck me, that’s exactly what Walt Disney did. The name is so common today that everyone thinks of the company when they hear it, but at one point and time, the guy had to have the … cojones … to decide ‘I’m using my name as my company’s name’ and thus Walt Disney became more than the man, not because of his name, but because of his effort etc.
So, I think that’s what I’m going to do, but I just wanted to hear what’s the knee-jerk reaction to such a move? Does it scream narcissism, huge ego, can’t get over myself - or do you think that will be ignored if the products are well received?
Thanks for any (preferably constructive) criticism.
Maybe not in the sense of “The Walt Disney Company” - but there are plenty that uses peoples last names “Wayne Enterprises” style. If you have some sons, it’s even better.
“Ghreef and Sons Toxic Waste Management: Ghreef the Reefs”
When you hear Toyota, McDonalds, 20th Century Fox, Honda, Philips, Wal Mart, Mug and Bean - is the first thing that comes to mind really "narcissism, huge ego, can’t get over myself "?
I think using your real name shows strength in todays age of anonymity.
He calls his business and company bannatyne, after his surname. He’s stinking rich. If it works for him, why not? A company name’s worth is what it is known for, not the name.
Mcdonalds could be called Wendy’s and still be as successful, the name didn’t dictate it’s success.
It depends on the name. If its easy to remember, has a nice ring to it, then yes go for it.
But if you have a shitty name (first and last) that is either too hard for people to remember, pronounce, or is simply too long … then maybe go down a different route.
With a forward by Justin Lloyd. In fact my business acumen is so smart, that your forward would probably take up 99% of the book. And at the end of it I would have a paragraph about how you can order the CD rom and audio version, plus website link.
Anyway, you should name your company anything you like, but it should be on th lines of game you like to create, or be nuetral. Don’t call it, “Kid friendly games” and make games like Doom. lol
Name it something that you can get the .com for it. If you are planning to make anything on the web and plan on having your business name out there as part of it, you damn sure better own the domain’s .com for that name.
