Nano -- WIP

Hello everyone.

Our team just pushed out a really unexpected project for the latest Ludum Dare Game Jam. It’s totally a work in progress… but we’ve got something kinda solid here. Feel free to check it out, we’d love some input. Clearly still a lot to go into it, but have fun!

interesting - I kept clicking the mouse button to fire =) controls could be a bit slower so it’s easier to fly around.

Hrm oddly enough the speed of the ship appears to have increased… one of the guys at CL might have tinkered with the build. I agree it’s way too fast… the physics needs some smoothing out overall though, so I’m not terribly worried just yet. We’ll work on getting some better tutorial levels in as well as a more graphical explanation on “How to Play”.

Sometimes I even find myself looking to shoot! Nothing official planned yet… but I believe we’ll be adding some “Boss” fights. This should have the Nano Bot equipped with some sort of gun to dispatch evil diseases.

Maybe instead of “firing” the nano bot could release nano chems or very small “worker” nanos that would slowly auto target and auto attack however maybe they have limited range (vision) or they can only release a toxin in a small radius so you need to strategically place them to help you. This way it’s not a shooter, and stays within the cellular/organic feel to the game!? Maybe also you have a rechargable power to temporarily change the proteins on your outer shell that make you invisible to the immune system for a short period of time… lots of ideas you can play with for this game - cool stuff…

Oh man the ideas are flowing now - if you allow chems to be released that can attack the immune system you would need to not release too many or you can kill the host and therefore lose the game (killing yourself in the process) - you can show this by changing the heart rhythm monitor at the top of your GUI as you have it there…

Health of the host is an interesting idea that I’ll bring to the team. We’re definitely planning on powerups as well… things like a “Hydrophobic Shell” would temporarily coat the nanoship in a Hydrophobic substance, allowing the ship to pass through walls for a few moments. Others would be ways to make yourself invisible to the immune system, or increase the range of your light etc.

The gun idea is interesting too, we’ll definitely look into it. We just want to make sure the game doesn’t get too complicated as it would defeat the minimalist approach we have going. But definitely great ideas thanks!
