Neat Virtools web game "Bucking Fuggy"

Unity can definitely pull this off. I love how responsive the car is.

And it immediately crashes my browser…

I couldn’t even get it to load in Safari. It loaded in Firefox, but it crashed my browser within 5 seconds of gameplay. Very excellent.

I’m running on a PC with Firefox, so maybe it’s not Mac friendly :stuck_out_tongue: lol It’s looks like a nice causal game tho.

Very good graphics, but its really responsive, to the point where I was flipped over in seconds. And just as I righted myself it crashed Firefox.

It caused my whole computer to catch fire and explode!

Sorry, I just wanted to chime in. I haven’t tried it yet.

It crashed firefox here too. Looked cool until I drove right from the start forward into an invisible wall and the camera got confused. Then it crashed.

I was wondering if it was going to be some avant garde thing where they mean “f***ing buggy” as in programing bugs. I guess it is buggy anyway.

Didn’t crash my firefox in 5 seconds…

more like 20 seconds… :stuck_out_tongue:

As for gameplay; too fast = no control; Spoils the nice environments…

i think i’ll take everybody’s word for it on this one ; )

That had some of the worse controls ever. I went and played the Unity Race Web demo to clean my palate :).

Seriously, I used virtools a long time ago. It is waaay too expensive, and numerous limitations regarding distribution and licensing.

Unity totally crushes the head of Virtools.

Honestly, if you look at Virtools marketing you will see they always wanted to have the ease of use like Unity but never got there.

Wow alot of sour grapes towards virtools. I’m new to this whole dev thing so I’ll just side step and let you all go at it heh  I was more focused on the actual game than the tools used to create it…

The one thing that’s annoying about this game is when you hit anything, your car goes nuts  But cool for a causal game.

As for the crashes, it’s probably a mac thing with the plugin, didn’t try it on mine, but didn’t have probs on the PC.

P.S. Was looking up the Virtools thing when I was searching for engines, and I would love to know why is this thing draped in so much mystery? I felt like I needed some secret handshake to learn more about it.

Anyhoo

It doesn’t like parallels either, it crashed immediately in a very colorful and exciting way.

Back in the day, it was marketed toward big-ticket visualization clients, which is still reflected in its price relative to other similar packages(quest3d, for one). In those cases, they didn’t need an open, descriptive webpage, just a good sales department with lots of connections to the defense and engineering industries. There’s also a common thread between all of the pages for Dassault Systemes products. They’re all needlessly complex, yet lacking in concrete, straightforward details.

Sorry, these are sour grapes:

The comments above are just citing user experience and content opinions:

  • That stuff crashes browsers like mad (took Safari out for me in about 10 seconds or so, just after the second turn).

  • The controls are way too twitchy, but that’s not the technology’s fault so much as the developer’s.

  • I had to install their player, 8.6MB download! And their installer shut down all my browser windows without asking…

The control is stupidly bad compared to how polished some of the rest of it is, but I could see this being really fun with some tweaking.

The VirTools plug-in installation was hell compared to that of Unity. Thank you OTEE!
