Need a name for game development company

Hello everyone
I need help with getting a name for my game company, it is really hard to make up one.
My company right now is working on a big horror project, so the name should sound serious, we are all professionals, above the indie level.
We are not going to develop ONLY horror games, a future project of ours is a first person shooter game, set in present days.
The horror game is also first person, high quallity graphics (For graphics reference: Outlast 2).
I really need some help with getting a name, the name is the selling point to a company, so it should be a good one.

Best Regards,
Chris

I suggest building your game, or at least a working prototype, before you worry about a name–for your company of all things.

And…if you’re all really “professionals above the indie level” it should be quite simple to come up with a name. Talk to the person writing your story about the name of your company.

Having randos on the internet name your company sounds unwise (as well as decidedly unprofessional and rather “indie”).

Look at the names around the industry. Bungie, Obsidian, Avalanche Studios, Criterion, Infinity Ward, blizzard etc. Most of them are meaningless garbage (and let’s not even talk about Japanese Engrish like 5pb or Spike Chunsoft). You only get a few inspired ones like Bioware, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft (Ubiquitous Software). So there’s really no big need for a really great company name.

The Barking Spiders. Very dangerous creature.

Call it Bob.

Or ““Call it Bob” studios”.

Either way, I’d also advise to make a prototype first. Name is something that can be decided and changed later.

If it’s professionals, you are paying them. And in that case you probably want a proper legal entity to cover liability and the like. So a name is probably important. But it doesn’t have to be a huge time investment. Some local studio names:

  • Hipster Whale
  • Mighty Games
  • Terran Studios
  • Tin Man Games
  • The Voxel Agents
  • Surprise Attack Games
  • Many Monkeys
  • Lumi
  • Rocket Jump
  • Well Placed Cactus

As you can see most of these names are nonsensical. But that doesn’t really matter.

Yea… if you are professionals, isn’t there already a company / name?

Ditto, I used to be the same way until I thought it was useless to come up with a name unless I at least release a game, I know some people who trademarked their name and all they have is ideas :eyes:

Just before I released my game, I was wondering what to call my developer name, my wife asked me what I was thinking of when I was making the game, I said a lot of things, but a good chunk of my thought was the kids because when I was developing the game, I would say 70% of my time they were playing around me, so the name “Banboonee” popped up in my head because that’s what I used to call my elder son when he was a baby, in my native language the word “Boonee” is a slang term which means my son, but I used to joke around and call him “Banboonee”, so then she said that we have two boys, “Banboonees” it is then, I even designed my logo with my kids as the concept:

Then naming a co shouldn’t be difficult.

Just some ideas that sprung to mind from the details provided.

One additional thought - if you are really professionals above the indie level - most likely the contracts you signed with the companies all ya’ll work for have IP claim rights to ANY content you create while employed with them (yes even when you are not working on there games).
So - might want to look into that - to make sure the content your creating - on the side - isn’t owned by the company who pays you a salary during the day.

Lolplz. Indie isn’t a skills level indicator.

indie is mostly a indication of budget, often the most successful indies are not built from inexperienced people but built from industry veterans wanting to do their own thing. It takes a lot of industry knowledge and experience to be successful and i would highly recommend to anyone wanting to create there own studio that they first work in the industry and learn about it as a whole.

Pixel Dream?

“No Imagination Games”

Also, Outlast 2 has some of the best and most consistent looking graphics I’ve seen recently so matching that is a tall order.
