We’re in the late stages of creating an app that will be competitive to Yelp, using Unity for the front end. Our developers are conflicted, they believe we may have to scrap what we have and start over in native. Part of me is thinking that maybe they’ve just hit a limit on their capabilities, or even knowledge of what unity can do. For example, we’re building a group chat function into the app, and we want people to be able to upload pics, similar to how groupme works. Please visit our website @ www.sircles.com and download the app. I’d love to hear thoughts as to what we can do better, and if we do need to scrap it and start fresh, the sooner we do it the better. I really love what we have so far, so I’m hoping we can finish in unity, and create a world changing recommendations platform. We have relationships with investors, and if we get this right, we have a very good chance to go the distance… thank you for your time!
since its only UI based, definitely would use some other framework for it…
you don’t need game engine there, slow app start, app size is much larger, uses more battery, unity UI not efficient etc…
Thank you for the feedback. Here’s a little more info, I have to ask because this is a huge, costly decision. Right now, we’re at about 1300 users and climbing steadily. We’ve received a ton of positive feedback in regards to how we use the wheel, to drill down into sub categories, and we’ve stayed very consistent to the “Sircles” brand name. In other words, we’re very close to having a pitch deck ready and are confident that with a few more added features such as the group chat functionality, we will be able to raise a large amount of money to help with a rebuild. Or, we can just start the rebuild now, but risk spending too much time getting back to where we’re at before we raise money. From what we understand, we’re looking at about 2.5-3 months to get back to where we’re at, which would cost somewhere in the range of 30k when you consider the time of everyone involved. I realize that this is more of a business problem, but people really love some of the animations we’ve been able to provide with Unity, and I’m wondering if you think we can get the same out of going native? Thanks again!
