So I’m making a game right now but I haven’t really thought of a theme. It’s called Survival Mission and its both online Multiplayer and Singleplayer. Anyone have any ideas???
Team of first humans colonising Mars
Nice Idea @tedthebug , Do you know any skins I could use for the terrain
Nope, sorry. But check the asset store for space packs & skyboxes. You could always use desert terrain for the landscape.
Ok will do
Holy crap that was easy.
Also @tedthebug , How would I integrate the multiplayer with this theme. I want the multiplayer to be about people fighting against each other.
I suggest you take some time to look around. There are several solutions on the asset store for multiplayer games and one of them will probably work for you. Integrating multiplayer is not so easy that someone can explain it to you on a forum.
people could kiss and hug each other… MMO kissing war could be cool
@Tiela I know how to code multiplayer but what should the players do (e.g. Should they be playing 5 vs 5 or should they be playing all-against or both, etc.)
That is up to you. You are designing the game. Just think what might be fun for you to play and ask some of your friends.
The theme is the extent of my idea, I have no experience playing multiplayer except for 2person co op. It could be interesting to have 5 person multiplayer where they have to work together to survive as long as possible but be given the chance to play to benefit themselves more than others & have to live with the consequences if the other players find out. Make it an experiment similar to what nasa are doing by locking people in that habitat for 12mths.
Warring corporations. Attempt to set up camps, sabotage opponent camps, delay opponents (sabotage their rovers?) so that they end up stuck outside during the cold nights or nasty sandstorms.
Maybe the central focus could be on oxygen. You’re trying to build camps and eventually terrariums to produce natural oxygen, in the meantime, you’re surviving on (and stealing/destroying) oxygen tanks?
Some game modes to consider:
player vs alien ai
human player vs alien players
survival mode: human and alien getting chased by another alien…hmm
- bonus survival mode: human and alien getting chased by human & alien zombies that arise from the masses of dead on both sides after the first alien:human war. Who wins? Do they ally against a common enemy? Do they try to direct the zombie horde towards the enemy race hoping that they annihilate each other or weaken themselves so much that they can be easily mopped up?..
This is a weird question. It’s kind of like, “I’m building a house, any ideas on what it should look like?” Unless, you’re just looking for an artistic theme to lay on top of a game mechanic. In which case, I’d say implement the mechanics without a theme - figure that out as you go, once you’re sure the game is fun.
Maybe you get to the end, with just simple shapes. Then, you’d call it, “Geometry War”. Or maybe, “Squares, Circles, and Triangles - Thunderdome!” (Heheh - inside joke from my podcast).

Make a zombie game where you’re a robot, the last Wifi hotspot on earth in a post-internet apocalypse and all the teenagers are trying to swarm you to update their social status.
